After Herc, Laf, John and Alex go to their dorms, I part ways with my sisters. They go to the mall to get some last minute back-to-school shopping done, but I decide to go to my friend Theodosia's instead. We were talking about starting a women's rights club this year, so we want to talk about how we should approach Washington with the idea. On my way to her dorm I pass an alleyway where I hear voices. I stop and listen in.

"No! Why would I do that! That's just wrong! Not even—" I hear a light voice say.

A deeper voice cuts her off. "Unless you want me to ... you know ... you again, I suggest you take my advice."

What the heck! I walk up the the people. "Excuse me, who do you think you are?" I say to the man. He has a baseball cap on and a ciggarette in his mouth. Ick.

"HAH!" He pretends to laugh. "Who do you think you are, little girl?" He says to me.

Oh no he did not.

He did not just call me little girl.

"What are you going to do about it?" He taunts further.

"That's it!" I say, pushing him against the wall. "I don't know who you are, but you do not have the right to beat this girl up! Now scram, unless you want to face my wrath!" The girl backs away from us. Well, from me, I guess.

"HAH!" He laughs again. "You're wrath? Please tell me this is a joke."

"You know, you could get in huge trouble for this," I say. "You wouldn't want your whole life to be thrown away by some little girl, wouldn't you?"

"You're just jealous. You know you want some of—" I kick him in the crotch before he can say anything else.

"Come on! let's get out of here!" I say to the girl, and we run out of the alley until we're right in front of Theodosia's dorm.

"Thank you for doing that. I appreciate it." She says.

"No problem. What's you're name? And who was that there?" I reply.

"I'm Maria Reynolds, and that was James Reynolds. He thinks that because we have the same last name, and because I'm so hot," she says, using air quotes on the last two words, "we were supposed to be together. Me being the naive girl I am, I agreed with him. But he was being abusive and would tell me to seduce other people. It kinda got out of hand."

"That's terrible! Hey, I was just on my way to a freind's dorm. Actually, it's right here," I tell her. "We might start a women's rights group. Want to join us?"

"Sure! I would love to stand up for other women who have been treated like I have," she replied happily.

"Great! I'm Angelica, by the way."

"Nice to meet you."

We go into Theo's dorm and I introduce them. We write an essay on woman's rights together and we are going to present it to Washington tomorrow and ask him if we can make this club. I guarantee that he'll accept it. Plus, we already got a new member and a new friend, so I'm feeling pretty confident about it. Maria is in a dorm with that James Reynolds guy, so we're going to ask Washington if she can switch tomorrow as well. Theo doesn't have a roommate, so she would be willing to dorm with Maria. For tonight, though, she's sleeping over at our house.

"Hey guys!" I say as I enter the house with Maria. "This is Maria."

"Hey!" She says, giving a small wave.

I smile. "Is it ok if she sleeps over tonight?"

"Of course!" Peggy exclaimes.

"Sure," Eliza says, looking up from her phone. Then she catches Maria's eyes and blushes a tiny bit. Oh no.

"Great!" I say with the tiniest hint of hesitation. We all enjoy our last night of summer together watching Moana.

Through the night I can't help but notice the way Eliza and Maria look at each other.
