"Good morning... Joy is it?" an older man with glasses and his hair neatly slicked back greeted Joy as she she entered his office. He stood up from his chair and shook Joy's hand.
"Good morning, hi." Joy sheepishly replied back, smiling and shaking his hand.
"Well, have a seat right here, make yourself comfortable, I do like to make sure that people feel comfortable when they arrive here... Would you like something to drink, eat?"
"No... That's okay, I had a big breakfast..." Joy replied as she sat down on the couch in front of her. She looked around at the psychiatrist's office at all the plaques and photos that were on the wall. She was impressed by what she was seeing and for a moment her mind felt better by just concentrating on something else.
Is that him.... fishing in that photograph? Cool. And that girl sitting next to him, she seems familiar.... Hmmm...
"Oh that heh" He noticed her watching at the photo and commented on it. "That's me with my daughter heh.... She is younger in that photo though heh..."
"Is she... Wait, no way!" Joy then read one of the plaques on the wall: "You... You're doctor Ki-... You are Jennie Kim's father?" Joy reacted surprised. She covered her mouth amazed by the newly-obtained fact about the person in front of her.
"Yeah, that I am" he replied smiling. "My pride and joy, pardon the pun" he added while holding and looking at the photo of himself and Jennie. Joy just smiled - He seems like a caring father.
"Yeah, she's always been my star and now the whole world listens to her songs... I couldn't be more proud of her. I remember when she called me on the phone to tell me "Dad, I'm so sorry I couldn't make it as a lawyer like you wanted me to be"... I told her that it didn't matter because I saw that pursuing a law degree wasn't her dream. I told her I would help her in any way to achieve her dreams, even if it meant just being there for emotional support... And wow... She just went a step higher every time..." the doctor then stopped with his monologue and looked at Joy smiling:
"I am extremely sorry, this is neither about me or my daughter-"
"No, need to apologize" Joy interrupted smiling. "It's... Nice. It's nice seeing such support." she added with a faint smile.
"Oh, okay... Now is probably the time I get my "psychiatrist face on", as the youngsters would say" he turned his body to Joy again, leaning on his right side and keeping a focused facial expression. This whole scene made Joy chuckle and more comfortable.
"Now, tell me..." He started again - "What seems to be the problem and why are you here?" He spoke in calm manner with a reassuring smile on his face.
"Huh...." Joy wanted to speak. She didn't feel shy. She just felt paralyzed at that moment. Her brain didn't even say anything. She just sat there blankly staring at the wall, expressionless.
"Okay... Can I help?" He asked after a while, trying to help Joy at that moment. She felt reassured and just nodded her head.
"You've mentioned that it's nice that I have shown support for my daughter, correct?"
"Yes"
"But regarding your body language, you seemed uneasy about the whole thing, like... Almost like you haven't experienced much support in your own life. That's at least what I would describe from just looking at the whole thing."
"Yes" Joy was amazed at how fast the doctor analyzed her.
"Now... The source can be varied, so I'll go with the most prevalent one - family?"
"Actually no, not the family, they are very supportive... And I'm sorry I didn't clarify before - I haven't experienced much support in the last year, not my entire life."
