"Be back before dinner!" Mother called after Meagen " AND STAY AWAY FROM THAT BOAT!"
"Yes, Mom!" Meagen replied as she swam towards the cave near their coral. It looked like normal reef from above and pretty much all angles but when you came inside it was a cheery home. She lived there with her mother and her brother. Her father left for a meeting a while back and didn't return. They got a message saying he switched sides. Meg finally reached the place in the coral that made a nice little cave. The only entrance was a hole but that was a little tight to get through without hitting her tail. She curled up and called her favorite fish.
"Oh, James!"
"USE THE RIGHT NAME!" A high pitched voice squeaked back
"Oh, James Pond?!"
"James pond at your service malady." A small black guppy appeared
"Have you gotten near that ship?"
"Do we have to talk about the ship?"
"Yes!"
"I got near it. It seems like a trade ship that lost its wind. I'm sure it will be out of the lagoon soon."
"I wish I could just take a little peak. I mean look I found this book on humans and they look adorable. Worst-case scenario I use my enchantment to get out of there."
"I don't want to go."
"James you don't mean that." Meagen began to speak in a sing-song sort of way " You do want to go with me don't you."
"I do really want to go." James dreamily replied. They slowly swam towards the floating treasure. Meagen began to swim all around it.
"Hah! They can't even see me! I bet I could sneak aboard!" she boasted
"I don't know... Maybe wait until night?" James replied nervously
"Do I really have to enchant again???"
"Nevermind, Let's go find a shirt so you can be human..." James swam to a shelf carved in the wall and picked out a suitable dress. After that, he swam out to let Meagen prepare herself. Soon the pale, copper-haired, coral tailed, adventurous mermaid was replaced with a girl with chestnut hair and a purple dress which complimented her sea blue eyes and rich tan. James reluctantly was still a guppy. Meagan placed her gold seashell crown down on the shelf before swimming quickly to the surface. Meagen grabbed a piece of driftwood and pretended to be unconscious. This quickly got the ship crew's attention. They began shouting and soon a lifeboat was lowered near her. A group of men hoisted Meagen in the boat. Instead of lying her gently down she was tossed over a rough man's shoulder. The lifeboat was brought back aboard and she was savagely thrown on the deck. Megan sat up furiously and began to protest
"How dare you?! What are you?! You are way too harsh. You hurt my back!"
"Shut her up." A man who was obviously the captain ordered. Megan struggled but was easily overpowered and was soon tied and taped over the mouth. That's when she realized
'These aren't normal traders! It was the black trade ship! The one that sold the other siren not too long ago!' Meagen thought fearfully. She tried to scream but the tape muffled it almost completely. She tried to undo the ropes that were tightly bound. She knew that she only had a month to survive before she started shutting down. By the end of a month and a half, she would die, probably be gutted then stuffed, and sold for some unreasonably high prices. Meagen tried to struggle even more but it only made the pirates chuckle. This was the worst afternoon ever!
