John's POV

The sound of a steady heart monitor woke me from me sleep. It felt like I had been unconscious for ever. I groaned and I felt someone squeeze my hand.

"Alex?"

"John! You're awake!" I opened my eyes. At least, I thought I did. The world around me still remained dark, though I could feel myself blinking. I could hear the heart monitor speed up as the fear and realization of my situation set in.

"A-Alex?! Where are you?! W-why can't I see anything?! ALEXANDER!" I screamed as tears flowed down my face.

"John! John, it's ok. I'm here! I'm here." I could hear Alex whispering. His grip on my hand tightened as he ran his other hand through my hair.

"Lexi..." I whimpered out. "I'm scared. W-what happened?" Alex froze for a split second.

"Peaches, don't you remember the accident ? I thought I almost lost you... You've been out for almost two months now..." He said, his voice soft as he resumed his calming motions with his hand and my hair.

"A-accident? Lex, w-what happened?"

Alex's POV

Flashback

I laughed as John excitedly pulled on my hand as we approached the small little ice cream shop. Which, might I add, was across the street.

"Lexi PLEAAASSSSEEEE!! Just one cone? I won't ask for anything else, I promise!" He begged, pulling the widest puppy dog eyes, still tugging towards the shop. I sighed.

"You know I can't say not to you Peaches, but come on! It's nearly 11:30 at night! They're probably closed anyway." I tried to reason with him.

"C'mon Alex, pleeeeaaasse? We'll just check! And if it's closed, then we'll leave! Please?" He begged.

I sighed. "Fine. But we're only checking!" He pumped his fist in the air and started to run across the street. I tried to reach for him, but he had slipped out of me grasp. Then the honk split through the quiet night air, as well as my scream.

"JOHN!"

He froze in the middle of the street, like a dear in headlights. It happened to quickly. I would've knocked him out of the way. But the impact happened so fast. I blinked. The world slowed down as my John hit the pavement. I don't know how fast I ran into the street, but I do know my knees were badly scraped and bruised from how hard I landed next to John's almost  unconscious body. His beautiful light brown curls had started to matte and turn red. His sparkling green eyes had slowly started to loose their sparkle. I grabbed his face and made him look at me.

"John?! JOHN, PEACHES LOOK AT ME! DON'T YOU FUCKING CLOSE YOUR EYES!" I said, tears threatening to spill. I lifted his head and laid it in my lap, whispering to him. At this point, I didn't care if I got blood on my pants. I looked at the person who hit him.

"WELL? DON'T JUST STAND THERE! CALL THE AMBULANCE! I'M NOT LOSING HIM!" I yelled, seemingly snapping the guy out of his thoughts.

Five minutes later, I was sitting in an ambulance, next to John, rubbing his hand. When we arrived at the hospital, he was instantly transported to the ER. I sat on the nearest chair, and instantly called Lafayette. I doubted he or Hercules would be awake, but it was worth a try. Surprisingly, he answered.

"Alexander? Why are you calling, it's like, midnight. Is everything ok?" He asked over the phone when he answered. I sniffed.

" N-no, not really. J-John got hit by a car... " I mumbled into the phone. Muffled yelling and the sound of keys jingleing was all I could here as Of dragged Herc to their car.

"Alex, don't worry. He'll be ok. We'll be there in a few minutes. Tell us the rest when we get there." He said, before hanging up.

I did end up filling them in, only for a new piece of information to be revealed about two hours later.

"Laurens?" A nurse said, walking out from the double doors.

"Here!" I said, standing up. "Is John ok? Will be be ok? Please tell me he'll be ok!"

" ...Well... Yes. But some things might have to change... You see, when Mr. Laurens but then ground, he damaged his optic nerve... Which more than likely has caused him to go blind... I'm sorry... "

From that moment on, I never left John's bedside. Because I swore to myself that I would be there for him. Always. Now more than ever.

Present

"Wait, so, you haven't left my side in two months?!" John asked me, astonished. I smiled, then remembered he couldn't see me.

"Yeah, pretty much... But it's fine peaches. Don't worry. And you know what? I still will be here. Every step of the way. Because you know what?"

"What?"

I climbed into his bed and wrapped my arms around his waist, pulling him closer to me. I started running me fingers through his hair, and I could borrow him relax under my touch.

"Just because you can't see now, doesn't mean you're not still my John. My little Peach Blossom. And I will carry you through the entire process of getting used to it. I will be here. And I'm not going anywhere. I swear to you John. I swear it." I said, shoving my face in his neck.

"Thank you, Alex... For everything."

"Anything for you Peaches. I love you."

"I love you too."

We cuddled in silence for a little while before John broke it.

"This means we're getting a seeing eye dog, right?"
