I rounded the corner and kept my pistol at ready, holding it close to my chest.
I knelt down and reloaded quickly, not wanting anyone to hear. I scanned the area briefly in front of me, and when I saw no one I took a chance and decided to take a look around the corner I was hiding behind.
The coast was clear and I quickly tried to race across to the other boundary, when I was shot twice.
"SON OF A BITCH!" I yelled angrily, throwing my controller at my friend Nathan, who dodged it and doubled over with laughter.
"This is why no one likes to play with you." Nathan said, picking up the controller and waving it with his eyebrows raised. Nathan was one of my closest guy friends and one of the people I went on the most missions with. He was tall-ish with the build of a runner, dark eyes, and jet black swooshy hair, and a permanent smirk.
"That's why I always let her win when we play Call Of Duty." Sophia laughed, sitting down and kicking her feet up on the table.
Sophia was one of my closest friends. She was basically like a sister to me. She was tall and thin, with long dark hair that fell down her back, and freckles sprinkled across her nose and cheeks. We also went on a lot of missions together because it was entertaining listening to her and Nathan argue.
I choked. "Don't cover your ass I beat you because I'm good." I replied. She smiled and rolled her eyes.
"Geez your such a sore loser." Carson muttered, and I threw a pillow at him.
Carson was a giant ball of energy who always seemed to be on a high and had a very sarcastic humor. He had about the same build and height as Nathan, but with shorter, spiky hair and square glasses.
"Ok I want a rematch." I said stubbornly, picking up the controller, until someone snatched it out of my hand. I pouted up at Alysa who had her hand on her hip.
"I already called the next game." She teased with a big grin. Alysa actually was my sister. Kind of. Her family basically adopted me when I was 4 and she's always been my best friend. She was tall with a thin, lean build, eyes that matched her shoulder length chocolate brown hair, with a contagious, alluring smile. She didn't go on very many missions though, because her skills lied elsewhere.
"He broke my streak though." I grunted, crossing my arms and slouching back into the couch.
"Can you call two wins in a row a streak?" Joe said, laughing condescendingly. Nathan laughed and I smacked the back of his head.
Joseph was an interesting character. He made a lot of dirty and obnoxious jokes, and he could rarely be serious, but I've known him a long time and he cracked me up. He was a medium height with side swept highlighted hair, and he always had a cocky grin on his face.
"I'll win next game." I said confidently, taking out my switchblade, flipping it open, and fiddling with it.
"Afraid not, mate." Rianna chimed in, walking into the giant gaming room with an iPad held in the crook of her elbow. Rianna was a really great friend I could always rely on, and one of the smartest people I knew. She had the best sense of humor that always put a smile on my face. She was a bit shorter, but still thin, with raven black hair, squared glasses, and child like energy.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Weve got a mission lemme see...oh it's just some losers robbing a video store. Who's going?" She said looking up from her iPad.
"NOT IT!" Everyone shouted at once. I cursed under my breath, flipped my blade shut, and stood up. I pulled my leather, sleeveless hoodie over my black tank top. I didn't like wearing a lot of armor like some of the others because I felt like it slowed me down. Plus I had shielding powers. I just wore leather combat pants, tight fitting boots that were made to keep me quiet and stealthy, and black tank top that had built in utility belts that crossed at the chest, but the slots were only made for knives because Alysa said I wasn't allowed to have grenades. Over everything I wore a black leather sleeveless hood with a quiver over my shoulder, so my obvious weapon of choice was a bow and arrow. Everyone thought it was stupid I didn't choose a more modernized weapon, but I always replied with "up yours".
"Is no one gonna come with me?" I said walking to the elevator and slinging my bow over my shoulder.
There was a collective murmur, as everyone was captivated in the game. I smiled, shook my head, and pressed the button.
There was a sudden collective shout behind me, and I turned around to see that Nathan had lost. I smirked and he rolled his eyes.
"Fine I'll come." He sighed grabbing his sword and zipping up his leather, bullet proof jacket that was all black, with a little subtle golden lining. Sophia shrugged and stood up, following.
"I change my mind." He said, turning around. She pulled him back by the ear and picked up her long cloak. I never could tell what color it was, because it looked black, but it also seemed to swirl with dark purple, then it also seemed to shimmer with silver. I would ask the captain about it but I was too lazy.
Sophia has mystical like powers. She had a darker magic and she seemed to have some kind of power similar to a siren.
Nathan had more the ability to summon and manipulate a heated power. It was weird because it wasn't like fire and it wasn't just shooting flames at stuff. The only way I could describe it was power, and Nathan was fairly convinced he was a God. He was very much not.
By the time the elevator got to the bottom floor, Sophia was practically screaming at Nathan. We jumped on our individual motor bikes, and I was tempted to jump in front of Sophia's and let it run me over. It looked Nathan had the same idea.
We actually rarely used bikes because we usually used Nathan or Joe, who both had teleporting powers.
"Ashlyn it might be helpful if we know where we're going." Sophia shouted over the wind.
"Oh right." I said. I tapped my earpiece twice. "Rianna. Talk to me."
"Ok...Silveron Boulevard, you're looking for a 'Rays Video Shack'. Four suspects, all of them are armed so be careful." She listed off quickly. I said a quick bye and picked up the speed of my motorcycle.
I rounded the corner and slowed down, Nathan and Sophia following. We saw the store and hid our bikes down a nearby hidden alley way. Then Nathan teleported us to the top of the roof right next to the store.
I turned to him. "How is being on THIS roof going to help us get THOSE guys Nathan?"
"Oh. Right." He placed a hand on both of our shoulders and in the blink of an eye, we were on the next roof.
For myself, I had the ability to change my vision into anything from x-ray to night vision, and more. I also had supernatural ability with my bow and knives, and was a highly trained fighter.
the irises of my eyes changed to a pale blue as I went into x-ray mode and I knelt down for a better look.
"Hey, why do you thin—GEEZ." Nathan jumped, when I looked up at him. "I hate when you change your eyes, it's creepy."
Sophia slapped him. "I can't believe your among the best agents in the world..." She said rolling her eyes, and I shushed them before they started bickering again.
"There." I said pointing to a place on the roof where it would be best to make an entrance.
Nathan teleported us there and the 4 hulking men paused in shock and confusion, before I kicked the first one across the face, and the chaos began.
One came after Sophia and the other, after Nathan. The last guy held my arms behind me back so I couldn't hit ugly #1 again. I swung my head back as hard as I could and heard a loud crack. He yelped and released me, clutching his bloody nose I probably broke. I took his arm and swung him over me, throwing him into the other guy, and they both went down without coming back up.
"That was probably the easiest heist I've ever done." I said to myself, turning around to find Sophia and Nathan took their men out too.
"You good? I thought that was your skull cracking." Sophia said with a nervous chuckle. I nodded, rubbing the back of my head and it did feel a little tender. When I trained, I already learned that there's a certain spot on your skull that's particularly pretty solid, so that's the best place to hit someone, should it need to be done.
"Wait a second..." I said walking forward and inspecting the guy who's nose I broke. His skin wasn't just cut and bleeding. It looked like it was actually torn. "What the..." I switched to X-ray mode and now saw that this was actually an extremely advanced artificial intelligence. So well advanced and realistic I'd never seen anything like it before. Who would send such powerful AI's to rob a video store?
Realization dawned on me and I jumped up and spun around, my eyes wide.
"Ah, God. Ash turn off your eyes." Nathan cringed.
"Guys these are robots. Extremely advanced ones. We have to get out of here, I think this was a trap—"
I was cut off when multiple explosions went off, and everything went black.
