I woke up to a sore leg and I groaned. I opened my eyes and was met with the harsh sunlight. I slowly brought my arm up to my face, shielding my eyes. I looked to my left and right and surveyed the scene.
Given that there were no officials that had shown up yet and only a few people were starting to create a crowd just beyond the wreckage of the building, I guessed that I'd only been unconscious for about 10 minutes.
I sat up and attempted to quickly remove the giant cinder block from atop my leg, and I cried out and let go like it was a hot poker.
I looked around. "Sophia? Nathan?" I said. I tried to be a little quiet so that crowd wouldn't notice us here. They were only focused on the wreckage.
I was shifting around some rocks to my left, when a mini, blue holographic image appeared in front of me. It was a blue spinning logo I had never seen before.
"You have been warned. You have seen what we are capable of..."
"Yeah I broke what you were capable of." I thought to myself.
"We will not hesitate to bring death upon you. We will take the WP-8gency down if you stand in our way. This is your only warning directly from the S.D.I Force." The logo faded and the device that projected the hologram destroyed itself.
I sat in shock for a moment. Then my blood boiled and I attempted to pick up the cinder block again, suppressing my screams of pain. I threw the block aside and flipped it off. I tentatively stood up, but I couldn't stand on my leg. Broken.
I grabbed a metal rod from the debris and used it as a cane, searching for Sophia and Nathan.
I saw a glimpse of that long black hair and I rushed over to Sophia, who was hidden under dust and smaller rocks. I threw all the rocks off of her and shook her awake. She wasn't too badly hurt, just some nasty cuts and bruises.
"Wha-what happened?" She said looking around, confused.
"We...we were set up. Some people called the SDI Force? I don't know. We'll talk about it later, we've got to find Nathan and get out of here before the police get here. Man police are lame how long does it take for them to get here?" I sneered.
I helped her up and winced when I put to much weight on my leg.
"Princess, oh my God what happened?" She said worriedly looking at my leg.
"It's fine, it's just broken. Hurry we've got to go."
We quickly found Nathan, who was close by. He had a giant cinder block on top of his arm. It must've been cutting off the blood flow to his arm, because it was starting to turn a dark purple.
"Ok Sophia help me lift this. I think people are starting to notice us." I said flipping on my hood, glancing to see people pointing at us.
I tried waking up Nathan and when nothing worked, Sophia slapped him in the face.
"OW!" He woke up, then he looked around confused. "Ahhh oh god. Fuck that hurts." He hissed, noticing his arm.
"Sophia help me." I said grabbing one end of the block.
We lifted the cinder block and cast it to the side. Nathan was in pretty much the same condition as Sophia with the cuts, except he had a compound fracture.
"Ok uh don't look at your arm. Just teleport us back to headquarters."
We were all very weak, so after a few tries, Nathan had gotten us back where we left, in front of the elevator in the game room.
"Hey how'd the mission..." Carson trailed off when he looked at us and then I didn't hear the rest because we all collapsed at once.
When I woke up, I was laying in the infirmary with an IV in my arm. I frowned. I hated IV's.
I looked to my left and saw Sophia in the next bed, then Nathan. Then I looked down at my leg, and Alysa had already done her magic, because my leg was encircled in a deep blue, misty bubble like thing.
Alysa had the power to heal people. It was ancient abilities and it was truly extraordinary. That's why she didn't go on very many missions, because while she had combat training like an assassin, she was needed here usually, in case someone got hurt, and she was okay with that.
Just then, she walked in with an iPad. I'm guessing that's how she knew I woke up, because all of our health was linked to her mind and the iPad.
"Hey you." She said looking up at me and walking to my bed. All of us had uniforms, but she refused to wear one unless she went on missions, even though Captain always tried to talk her into it. Everything about her reminded me of Shuri from Black Panther. She had attitude, a free spirit, and she was so stubborn, yet she was compassionate. Even her style was similar.
"How's my patient?" She said, focusing on her work on my leg, which already felt better.
"Pretty good. Have I ever told you I love those powers of yours?" I said, picking up a cup of ice chips.
"Every time your ass is in this infirmary." She laughed. I laughed too.
"Beautiful..." she mumbled to herself, admiring her work. She stood up straight and pulled up a chair next to me. "So what happened out there? I thought it was just a few losers robbing a store."
I frowned. "Yeah that's what I thought too. We took them down easy, but I noticed something on the guys nose I broke. It look like it'd been torn skin, and there was...like metal under it, and I realized it was a robot. I realized too late that it was a trap. The whole thing exploded. I woke up pretty quick. We were all trapped under rubble, and you can guess the rest. Alysa these robots they have...they're far more advanced then anything we've ever seen."
She nodded and thought for a second. "Who are 'they'?" She asked.
I told her about the holographic message and the logo.
"Some league called S.I.D Force. Have you ever heard of them?" I asked.
"No..." she trailed off. She set the iPad down, handed me a pair of crutches, and started to walk out of the infirmary.
I quickly followed her to the computer room, which was just an extremely dark room with one big screen in the middle and other slightly smaller ones to the side. It had no lights except for the dull white glow that emitted from the ceiling, as to not damage the computers. Plus you could see better.
She started typing and clicking a lot for a little while.
"What're you doing?" I finally asked.
"I'm trying to find this league. Did they leave any clues? Nothing?"
I thought for a second and shook my head.
"What about that thing the hologram appea—"
"Self detonated."
Her expression deepened and her eyebrows furrowed.
"Ok well we'll have Rianna look into." She said, standing up.
She started walking out and I followed using one crutch and we went to the kitchen, where it seemed like everyone was arguing.
"I'm telling you the chicken came first you damn dumbass." Carson said to Joe.
"Ok what do you have to back that up?" Joe replied, his voice dripping with condescension.
"My support is YOUR STUPI—oh hey guys..." Carson said awkwardly when everyone finally spotted us.
"We just got attacked by some mysterious, dangerous people, and you guys are arguing about chickens?" I said raising my eyebrows.
"Well we didn't know if we wanted chicken or steak for dinner so..." Rianna muttered, taking a few steaks out of the fridge.
I smiled and rolled my eyes, limping closer and sitting at the giant island in the middle of the kitchen. Great thing about founding a huge international top secret spy agency, they took pretty good care of you. The seven of us were the most important people in the agency, and we founded it with the Captain. We had the powers, authority, importance, protection...everything, so in exchange we were basically given anything we wanted. We lived in the main headquarters, which was in Washington D.C.
We lived in the upper half of the whole building, which made up our quarters, armory, infirmary, a giant game room, kitchen, dining area, computer room, and living area. We lived comfortably.
"Ok I think the other two are up. Their very weak right now so I don't need them having a heart attack from arguing." Alysa said walking out of the room to the infirmary. "And don't let Rianna cook that!" Alysa shouted from down the hall.
Riannas head shot up and she made a face. "What's that supposed to mean?" Rianna said defensively. I laughed and switched places with her. Me and Sophia were the only people who knew how to cook.
"Rianna, you once FaceTimed me while I was on a mission because you set the toaster on fire making waffles." I said.
Carson looked at her with an 'are you stupid' expression. "Isn't your ability being a genius?"
She grinned. Riannas power actually was supernatural intelligence, and she could talk to people telepathically. That's why she was the brains of our team, but for someone so smart, I questioned her. A lot.
"We're all human." She replied.
Sophia and Nathan walked in with Alysa between them and I smirked. That means they were fighting.
I went back to cooking and soon made dinner for the seven of us.
We ate at the dining room like usual, and mumbled our goodbyes after, splitting off to our quarters after a long day.
