"An ambulance?" I shriek, extremely worried. My eyes are wide open.
"Yeah."
"Ryan! What do you mean 'yeah'? Are you okay?! Oh, God!" I panicked, saying 'yeah,' in a mocking tone.
"It's okay Krissy. Relax. I'm fine. It's just my dad," his voice cracks.
"Ryan. I'm sorry. What happened?" My heart broke for him.
"We think he's in a coma. We aren't sure why though."
"How is he?" I lowered my forehead into my hand.
"I don't know. I got home and my brother was crying. He ran up to me and was like 'I don't know what's wrong with dad! he won't get up'. I ran upstairs where my brother told me he was, and he was just sleeping on his bed. I tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't move. I didn't know what to do, so I called the ambulance."
I could tell that he was trying to sound calm, but I could still hear the worry and sadness bleeding through his voice.
I realized that I haven't moved since I answered the phone. I just stand here, unable to move. I don't know why I am so worried, though. It must be because I love Ryan so much, and I can't have anything like this happen to him or someone that he loves. This would ruin him. This wasn't ok; not with his mother gone.
"I'm coming," I say.
"You don't have to."
"I want to. I will always be there for you. Remember what we said?" I thought about the night he came to my house with flowers.
"Yes. Thank you, Krissy. I'll see you there," there was relief and appreciation in his tone.
"Bye, Ryan. I love you."
"I love you, too."
I figure out how to move again, and I take my parents car keys and dash out of the house.

I call my parents as I walk into the hospital. I tell them that I am sorry for leaving so quickly and without them knowing, and I tell then what happened to Ryan's dad. They said it was okay, and to tell Ryan that Ryan and his family will be okay and that my parents are sorry.
I walk past the spot where Ryan gave me his phone number the day we met; past the spot where we said our first goodbye. I walk through the doors that we walked through together. I walk in the ER room where Ryan and I waited for my cousin. There were so many memories in this place, now another horrible one to add.
I see Ryan sitting on a chair. The same chair that he sat on the last time that we were here.
I quickly run up to him, and sit down beside him with a thump. I wrap my arms around him. He hugs back, then we let go.
I feel so rushed. I take a deep breath to calm down.
Ryan was looking to the ground, thinking, and now he looks up to me.
"Ryan," I say like I am relieved. "How is he? How are you?"
"I'm good, I guess. They're doing some tests and stuff on him." Ryan looks really upset. He is trying so hard not to show it. Pain etched his features. You can just think that his father is going to be sleeping for a long time, but you never know when, or even if he will wake up. If he does not wake up, he will have no parents. That really was horrible.
"My parents said that they're sorry. It'll be okay." I am not very used to comforting people, but I have to try for Ryan.
"I know. I'll be fine if you're here."
