At first, it didn't mean anything. He said he'd join them, yes- but he wasn't really going to be a villain. He wasn't going to kill anyone, or destroy anything. He can always go back. Izuku told himself that the moment he felt uncomfortable, he was going to leave. He was testing this out. Dabbing a foot into the water of the villains. Because he really didn't have anywhere else to go, did he? No one else wanted him but the villains. He was an outcast, but not to them. At least they took him in. That's got to be creditable for something, right? So he's staying here for now. He'll experiment with this new lifestyle.
It had been a day since he joined the league of villains. One day. They had been so welcoming of him, everyone introducing themselves, showing him where he'd sleep and stay for the rest of his time there. They made him feel at home, which felt strange. He hadn't felt at home in so long. It's crazy, really. All of Izuku's life he had seen the members of the league as pure evil. Murderers, thieves, only capable of feeling anger and malice. But yesterday, the villains showed him compassion. They showed him kindness when they knew he needed it most. And it all seemed to genuine. They truly seemed like good people. They experience pain, sorrow, caring. They take care of one another as a family would. They are still villains, but human.
Midoriya felt uneasy, though. Despite all of the good they seem to be, they were still villains. Did he really want to help destroy the very people he admired all of his life? The very people who had saved him and many others countless times, with smiles on their faces? The very people who brought peace and happiness to everyone on Earth? Did they really deserve that? All Might had saved him, him directly, from the sludge villain all that time ago. The sludge villain had been evil. He almost killed Izuku, and for the only reason that it would benefit him.
But this also brought upon different memories. Memories of All Might crushing his dreams. The pro heroes were also the very people that tossed him aside. The very people who built him up only to knock him down. Like Jenga, you build the tower to play the game, but it never takes long for the tower to fall. All Might always has a smile on his face, but why? Is he mocking those inferior to him? Smiling as they almost get killed? Society practically forced him to join the league of villains. They practically threw him at them. Like he meant nothing. Like no matter what he did, no matter where he went, he would not make a difference. If he tried to become a hero, joined the villains, or simply fell off the face of the Earth and stopped existing, the world would keep turning as it was. He was useless to them. As Izuku sat on his bed, he felt the familiar seething anger. They all rejected him... And why?
What did he do that was worth rejection? He was born without a quirk, yes, but with the enthusiasm of a hero. He didn't ask for much, only encouragement to do what he had always wanted to do. Be a pro hero. But not a single soul believed in him. All Might told him to give up on his dreams, Kacchan told him to kill himself, and even his own mother gave up on him before she could even watch him try. He tried to tune out the hate, but he couldn't forever. But now he can. Because he doesn't need to be the greatest hero of all time.
But the greatest villain? Maybe. If you can't join them, beat them. If Midoriya can't join the heroes, he'll beat the heroes. He sighed and felt justified in his answer now. Maybe the real villain is All Might. He thinks he so much better than everyone else. He puts himself on a pedestal, but he's really not so great. Someday he'll perish, and people will still think, "that guy was invincible." But he isn't, now, is he? A quirkless boy like him was far from invincible, but if no one is invincible, then can't the quirkless have a chance in the race?
"Young Midoriya," Kurogiri voice cut off his thoughts as he entered his room. "You're awake. Good. Shigaraki would like to speak with you at the bar." Kurogiri was, perhaps, the most sensible person of the league. He was gentle and soft, almost fatherly to the rest. He was the humble guidance to Tomura Shigarki. He was the base structure of the villains, the one that kept them together. The glue.
