*Troy POV*

Ugh training at midnight is effort but then again I have been assigned as her guardian for a reason, nobody knows why but before her parents disappeared they called our school and asked for me and Miles especially. No idea why because as far as the students go we never even knew that her parents had powers.

They were a special pair, her mum had the ability to change shape and her father could see the past just by standing in his room and for some reason these two were a perfect match. But over the years they had made enemies as they fought together to save people or solve mysterious deaths by using their powers. After a while they decided to settle down and start a family - Gabbie was the first then soon followed by her little brother.

But not long after Gabbie turned 15 her parents disappeared, nobody knows why or how or even who, just that they were gone. Most of us suspect that the people that hated them took them then their children because they both went missing as well for just over a year and whatever happened in that year must have harmed Gabbie real good. As for her brother? I don't think I want to know what happened.

I drag myself out of bed, put on my training clothes and head towards the hall. For those of you who don't know my power is just purely fire. Plain. And. Simple. So I guess that it is useful that I am her guardian...

I got to the hall in a matter of minutes and Gabbie was already there just sat on the floor staring into space but she soon turned her head when she saw me.

She stood up and waved me over to where she stood before cocking her head to the side in a silent question - "Okay Gabbie we're going to concentrate on your fire today seeing as I am a fire user" She nodded with excitement and created two fire balls so that I would have one to use.

I still can't believe that she can make fire like that, but it sure it helpful.
"Okay we're going to learn control because I'm pretty sure that you've sneezed or woken up and set yourself on fire... Right?"

She gave me a sheepish smile, when bright red and looked away from me. I guess thats a yes.

"I need you to create two fire balls - one for me and one for you..." she did as I asked and handed me one, they hovered above our palms as Gabbie looked at me in concentration. "Okay, place them on the floor..."

I motioned her to step back, the two balls of flame started to spin at an incredible speed and started to combine while rising higher and wider. The twisting column of heat continued spinning while Gabbie had a look of wonder in her eyes. The towering blaze was over 12ft by now.

I turned to Gabbie, "I need you to control this, make it smaller and slow it down. Turn it into a small enough ball to fit into the palm of your hand. Okay?"

She gave me a determined nod as I stepped out of the protected circle and allowed Gabbie to try but I knew it would be impossible but I need to see what she was capable of before started actual training.

She stood as strong and proud as a pillar, her head cocked to the side as if she was analyzing what the thing before her was doing. Then closed her eyes, placed her arms out in front of her with her palms facing the flames. And she breathed.

The burning column stated to slow down and shrink, slowly. Collapsing in on itself and forming a ball until that also got smaller, sweat began to bead on her forehead. Soon the ball of flame was the size of a golf ball.

Instead of hovering into her open palms it split in two and absorbed into her body.

Gabbie fell to her knees. Palms flat on the floor, shaking and sweating.

Then she screamed.
