he was surrounded. every object in his room shining gold in the moonlight, Dan cowered in fear. there was nowhere to run, and no one to turn to. he knew he had to be strong. but how?

"Resilient. You're such a resilient boy, Dan. I love you so much. And I'll always be proud of you, no matter what," his mother's words remained in his head.

where are you, mom?

are you proud of me now?

look what I've done.

his shaking hands covering his face and curly hair falling over his eyes, Dan cried. i'm a monster. i'm a monster.

"You're such a failure, Dan."

"Your art is trash."

"You won't go anywhere in life."

"Won't you act more serious?"

no. nonononono. i can fix this...

what a let-down you are. why don't you turn yourself to solid gold, just like everything else you own? at least then you'll be worth something.

the snickers of classmates echoed in his memory. Dan almost gave in. almost.

"Be resilient. For me. I love you, Dan."

i made her a promise. now I have to fulfill it.
