He slept in the spare room. Since my parents died, I slept in the master room.
The next morning, on a Friday, we woke up and got to work. It was quicker with his help, Billy's good at milking my cows.
We had about half hour extra time before school started. Four horses were galloping, all four of the Cartwrights!
"Howdy Tillie!" Ben shouted.
"We were about to head for school."
"Not for another twenty minutes," Adam said.
They got down from their horses.
"Looks like you got a farm hand hired."
Ben froze and stared at Billy.
"You got Billy Burgess to help, well I be darned."
"Yes sir, talked em into helping me. He's pretty good."
"Well I be darned a second time."
The boys laughed. Billy was silent.
"Well, we're glad you found someone to help you," Little Joe said.
"Thanks Little Joe."
Little Joe's cute too but he's too old for me!
"Well, we just came to see this for ourselves. Didn't expect Mr. Burgess to do it," Ben said.
"And let's leave it at that boys."
They nodded.
"I guess you kids better be gettin' to school."
We nodded.
They left and we went to school.
When we were outside of the school waiting, Billy said something to me.
"You can tutor me if you want to, in arithmetic."
"Good."
He smirked at me.
Class was in session.
