Late Again!?

I ran inside the school house.

"You're late again Matilda," the teacher said.

"I'm so sorry sir-"

"You show up late every day, each time means five licks on the palm. You got a big farm I understand but you got school too. Hold out your hand."

I did so, I five quick licks with the ruler.

"Let me let you in on a little secret, go to bed as early as you can and wake up as early as you can. You won't be late again I promise you that."

"Yes sir."

"Take a seat."

"Yes sir."

I sat at the girls side of the room, far across from me was Billy, he was just staring blankly at me.

"Take a picture, it lasts longer."

Billy imitated someone taking my picture. Him and the other boys laughed.

"Settle down," the teacher said.

Billy smirked at me...good lord.

"Let's first get started on our times tables. We know that ones times any number is the same and zero times a number is zero. So, I will write some arithmetic problems down, do them based on what you know from the times tables."

We did our arithmetic on our slates. I was really good at my times but Billy always struggles.

We went out for recess. Me and Sam were sitting in our usual spot.

"You should've seen how angry Billy was for struggling in arithmetic today. He's clearly struggling," Sam said.

"I could offer tutoring I guess."

"Yeah, you're the arithmetic expert! Go ask him, he's such a cutie."

I got up and walked to him, he was talking with his friend.

"Excuse me Billy, I was wondering if I could maybe tutor you in arith-"

"I don't need your stinkin' tutoring!" He said.

Rude!

"Yeah, go away Tomboy Tillie before we catch your cooties!" His friend said.

I just walked away.

"Billy is such a jerk, I hate em!"

"Ugh, why is he cute Til? Why?"

We went back in.
