The stew was ready to be served that evening. I heard multiple gallops.
"The Cartwright's are here," Billy said.
I ran outside.
"You boys are just time, it's already ready and waitin'!"
They looked at each other and chuckled.
All of us were at the table eating.
"Hmm, this is purdy darn good," Hoss said.
"Thanks Hoss."
"You made biscuits too, just like your ma used to make em," Ben said.
"Guys, thanks. Ma was the one who taught me how to cook."
"She was always a wonderful cook," Adam said.
"Never could go wrong with her cookin'," Hoss said.
"You know Hop Sing could come if he wanted to," I said.
"I did ask em but he said no thanks," Ben said.
"What a shame, at least you brought Little Leopard."
Little Leopard smiled with her mouth closed full of food. She swallowed it.
"Food is good, as good as Hop Sing's food."
They laughed.
"So, the Virginia City dance is tomorrow night, you comin?" Ben asked.
"Yeah, me and Billy are going together."
"Well!" Ben said shocked.
"I'll be damned," Little Joe said.
"I know you're shocked, Billy asked me and I accepted, when he first heard about, he said he didn't wanna go. Later that night, he asked me. Guess he changed his mind."
They chuckled. Ben turned to Billy.
"Take good care of her Billy, she's a wonderful gal."
"Yes sir."
"You two make a swell couple," Little Joe said.
"Really?" I asked smiling.
He nodded. Billy looked at me and smirked.
