"They never got around to picking up Nick." He muttered. We went inside and I saw nobody was there. I flicked on the lights and streamers flew, and confetti poppers popped. The loud noise sent me in a frenzy. They should've known better.
A 9 months earlier:
I walked into my mom's shop and smiled at her. "Hey ma!" I said. "Pepsi you know not to bring sand into here." She said but hugged me anyway. "I just caught the most wicked barrel and finally made it through!" I exclaimed. "Speak English honey." She laughed. "I was in my first circular wave and made it through." I said. "Oh." She nodded and continued stocking the shelves. "It's okay I got it." I said and started stocking. I heard the pull up of cars and bullets sprayed the place. Glass flew everywhere and wooden splinted stuck me in my legs, a dozen cans fell on me and I caught a bullet in my stomach. Peach juice from the cans covered me and I cried while the shits continued. "THAT'LL TEACH YOU TO STEAL FROM US JAMES!" a voice yelled and the car sped off. "Mom?" I asked quietly. I heard a cough and saw a pool of blood slither into my safe space behind the counter. "No." I whispered. My eyes filled with tears as I started sobbing and screaming. The police came and we were rushed to the hospital. The scene replayed in my head like a tape on the way there. "Just stay cool kid." The paramedic said. "What do you like to do huh?" He asked me. "I like to surf." I sputtered. "Okay, okay, cool, I have a daughter named Lola she loves to hit the waves after school, like barrels, and other things." He tried to soothe me. "I've seen her probably, at Venice beach? I nailed my first gnarly barrel today." I said. "Awesome you just gotta make you you keep your form in those nas—

Back to the present:
I punched Ricky square in the face and ran out. "Pepsi, come back!" He yelled. I ran all the way to the corner store and walked in. "Oh man." I said. "Kid quit leaning against the magazines, you're gonna crease them." The shopkeeper said. I shrugged and grabbed a playboy magazine before setting out for the beach. I needed to be alone right now. I sat down in the bathroom and opened the magazine (Don't judge me I'm a teen). I looked at the hot blonde on page 3 and grinned. Then there was a banging at the door. "Come on out grease, we know you're in there spanking the monkey." A man yelled. I tucked it back in and opened my blade. "I got a blade in here, don't mess with me." My hand shook. I saw hands grabbed my legs and I shrieked. It's just like the movie Night of The Living Dead at least I think it was. (I was too busy smooching Lola). The door rattled and I looked at the piss stained floor. I saw a roach skitter on by and I inhaled through my teeth. I'd rather die. The door was practically yanked off of it's hinges and He grabbed me by the collar. They kicked me in my gut and the wind was knocked out of me. They dragged me over to a toilet full of piss and junk. I strained against the toilet and heard someone grunting in the back ground. They shove my head into the disgusting toilet and kept flushing it. The water went up my nose and put my mouth as zi coughed and inhaled the water back in. They pulled me back up and I coughed and sputtered until they shoved me back in flushing it again. Then they pulled me out and threw me against the wall. I slipped on something brown and hit the ground. They grabbed me by my hair and dangled my head over a coil of poop. I yelled and closed my mouth as he let go of my hair and I fell into it. I frantically wiped the smears off and started huffing. "You guys gone on ahead and find his hot girlfriend we can have some fun with her too." He said. They laughed stupidly and left. He kicked me in the gut and started punching me in the face. He had large sharp football rings which sliced my cheek very deeply. He went to the sink and washed the blood off of his rings. I stood up and pulled out my long prized stiletto. I yelled and drove it into his neck. Blood sprayed everywhere and he gargled blood before falling down. I closed the blade and shoved it into my pocket and ran all the way to Jackson's house. I jumped through the open window anod he yelled. His girlfriend screamed and covered herself up. "Tell that broad to get out." I checked the windows. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, cool it. What's going on cat?" He asked. "I killed a soc." I stammered. He pulled a pistol out of a drawer and handed me 50 dollars. "I want you to listen carefully now. Take the 3:00 to Compton jump off as soon as it stops. When you get to town walk into a store buy supplies and say it's for a party. Change your appearance and look for Tre in the supermarket, He'll take care of you." He said and I nodded . He dug around in his drawer and pulled out a bomber jacket and a grey plaid shirt for me to wear. I'll find you in a few days once the heat dies down." He said and hugged me. I then ran off to the rail yards and waited in the bushes. My legs was starting to hurt when I heard a whistle. I waited and when it passed I emerged and ran full speed. I was running around the train when I heaved myself up. The jump took all the energy out of me and I panted as I lied with my face against the cool wood of the train. I waited and sighed playing with the gun I had. My eyelids drooped but I still had a ways to go before I'd sleep. I heard the train whistle and it jarred me back to reality as I prepared to jump. We reached the yards and I took off running. I ran into the supermarket and bought bread peroxide, contacts, cigarettes, and turkey meat. After checking out I saw a African American leaning against the wall. "Pepsi right?" He asked. I jumped and shuddered and feared the worst. "Don't piss your pants. I'm Tre." He said and extended a hand. I shook it and we walked to his car. "We gotta hurry and change your appearance." He said. He took me to a run down house and I assumed it was Compton. We walked inside and the interior was pleasantly decorated. I sat down and ate a sandwich while he grabbed the scissors. He had me put my head in the sink and he did it styling my hair nicely. "Whenever you leave the house put on these contacts." He said. I nodded and he turned the tv on. Gunshots were heard outside and I ducked. "Chill, it's just the gang." He said.
