I wake to a shaking. "Seia," I hear Julie's voice. "Wake up. We're in Oakheart. Need a ride home?" I look around to see Zach looking at me wide-eyed. "What?" I ask him. "Dude," He starts, "you were talking in your sleep, something about a lab, and someone named Jay. Then suddenly, my sister touched your arm to wake you up, and she got shocked." I smile. "Well, I guess that happens now and again?" He looks at me. "We saw the electric charge." Panic starts to surge through my chest and I feel the electricity trying to escape.
"Well, I don't know, I was asleep," I say as I step out of the car. "Thank you so much for the ride and clothes." Julie smiles. "Of course." She says as she hugs me. She releases me and I walk down the driveway, waving as I leave. I turn and start walking down the sidewalk. I need to get control over this power.
A shiver runs down my spine. It's cold. I look ahead to see Jay. "J-Jay!" I call. No response. I run to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He fades as my hand goes right through him. I sigh, fighting the tears. I have no clue where I am in this town, and I don't know how far away from my house I am.
I start walking again. Five minutes go by before I hear something. "Seia?" I hear a familiar voice, but somehow like a stranger. I turn, to be met by strong arms embracing me. "I missed you! What happened, man?" I hear him shout. Jac? I feel a wet substance on my shoulder. Tears? I wrap my arms around him. "Jac?" I ask. He pulls away, still holding my shoulders. Tears stream down the familiar face. "Where were you?" He demands. "I-" I start, but I can't tell him the truth. "I had to visit a relative," I say, smiling. He raises an eyebrow. "Without your phone? I found it outside the school." He says. "H-Hey. Let's not get into detail. I missed you too man." I say. "Where's Jay?" I ask quickly. His face changes to sadness. "Seia," He starts. "He is fine, but your dad..." Pain stabs my heart. "I knew it," I say. "Take me home Jac," He nods and we start walking.
**Twenty minutes of catching up and tears, My house comes into view. My heart starts to pound. I start to walk faster. Jac grabs my arm and I look at him. He smiles. "I'm glad you're back." He says. "Me too," I reply, walking to the door. I knock on the door three times. A few beats pass before the door creaks open. I look down to see the most beautiful thing. "Jay!" I say as I hug him. "S-Seia?" He asks. Tears leak down my face. "I missed you. I'm so sorry for leaving you." I say. I pull back and look him in the eyes. A large bruise covers his right cheek. "What'd he do?" I say.
A large figure appears behind him. "Dad," I say as I stand. "What are you doing here?" He says, opening the door more. "I'm here..." I say, searching for a valid reason. "For Jay." I finish. He scoffs. "We're not interested in anything you have to say." He says, placing a hand on Jay's shoulder. "Don't touch him!" I shout, smacking his hand away. He looks stunned at first. A hand greets my face, hard. "Don't you dare talk to me like that, you mutt!" He shouts. I look at him. I feel the electricity leaping around inside me, begging to be released, but I suppress it. "Don't talk to you like what? After you beat me almost every night? After you almost killed me, and Jac had to save me?" I say blankly. "Don't you ever touch my little brother. I'm twice the man you'll ever be. No man should ever hit his wife or his children. Especially a seven-year-old." I say as I pull Jay to me. "Watch what you say." He says, lifting his hand.
I catch it. "Don't make me kill you," I whisper in his ear. "You psychopath!" He shouts, yanking his hand back. "Maybe I am a psychopath. Maybe I'm crazy, but there is one thing I'm not," I say, smirking. "I will never be you." I look up at him. I reach inside the door and grab Jay's coat and shoes. "Come on, Jay. We're leaving this horrible man." I say as I hand him the items. He nods and puts them on. We walk down the porch. "Don't ever come here again!" I hear him shout at us. I chuckle. "I didn't plan on it." I call over my shoulder.
I see Jac around the corner. "Need a place to crash?" He says, smiling. I smile back and he ruffles Jay's hair. "Thank you so much Jac," I say, "you too Jay." Jac smiles wider. "So where were you really?" He asks. "I'll fill you in when we get there," I say. Suddenly, I feel Jay slip his small hand into mine. "I missed you," Jay says. "I missed you more," I say. We all smile.
