I remember the colder days
When the stars were plastic
And my breath was tar.
The sun didn't exist
And all my friends
Rotted in the ground
Beneath my feet.
I remember the colder days
When even the clouds were too tired
To release their snowflakes
And the grass was dead and frozen
With no blanket of white
To keep it company.
I remember the colder days
Of permanent Halloween costumes
When the hollow grin of a jack'o lantern became my face.
I remember the colder days
When I shed no tears
And people had the nerve to call me strong
When I was freezing to death
Before their eyes.
