A loud crunch bounced off the walls.
"Hey this is pretty good!" exclaimed Zak, who had just taken a bite of the taco Darryl made for him.
"Really?"
"Nope."
"What?! What's wrong with it?!"
"Just kidding it's good."
"You're sure?"
"Nope." Zak said, struggling not to snicker.
"OH MY GOODNESS DO YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!"
"IM SORRY ITS GOOD I LOVE YOU!!"
Immediately as Zak said that, he shut his mouth and his heart raced. He cautiously looked up at Darryl to see his reaction.
"Whatever Zak, just eat the taco I nicely made for you!"
Darryl had thought nothing of it.
Well, duh. It's normal for him to not think about it that way. Stop being so disappointed, Zak. he thought to himself.
"Alright.. sorry." Zak said solemnly.
Darryl noticed his tone and started feeling worried he upset him.
"You can be really annoying sometimes Zak, but I'm glad you're here. It's nice."
WHERE THE HECK DID THAT COME FROM STOP IT YOU FREAKING-
"Yeah, you too. I really appreciate everything you've done for me lately. I don't know what I would do without you sometimes." said Zak while smiling awkwardly. He was trying not to smile too much. It could reveal his blushing cheeks.
"That's really nice of you, Zak! I appreciate you too. You've helped me get subscribers, lifted my day up when I was upset, make me laugh, and just so many things. You really are my best-"
"I'm in love with you."
"-friend........."
Zak was staring at the table so Darryl—who was staring at him in shock—was unable to see his face.
"...huh?"
Zak tried saying something, but all he could hear was mumbling.
"I can't hear you..."
Mumbling, but louder this time, came from Zak again. Darryl only made out the word 'I'm'.
"You're...?"
"I'M IN LOVE WITH A BALD BOY!" Zak screamed while standing up, his hands on the table while looking him in the eyes with a bright red face.
Darryl's face immediately clouded with confusion, although he had a slight understanding of what he means.
"What..?"
"I'm.. in love with you. Your stupid cute face, your pretty eyes, your OVERWHELMING kindness, all of it. I'm in love with it!" he said, completely red at this point. He was shaking from the speed his heart was going.
"Z-Zak.. I don't.. I don't know what to...." he trailed off. He felt the heat rush to his face as a blush formed.
Zak continued staring at him with a face full of anticipation and fear.
Darryl's heart was racing, scared of hurting his friend. But was he just his friend? Or could he be something more?
No, I won't hurt his feelings. I can't lead him on.
"Zak.. I really care about you. You make me happy, keep me company, and so much more.."
"But..?"
"But.. I don't like you in that way. I'm really sorry.. I never expected you to fall in love with me.."
There was an awkward silence, until finally...
"Ehhh, it's whatever. It's not like I expected you to return my feelings.. I kind of knew what you would say. Let's just act like this never happened, okay? After all, you're my best friend." he said, smiling weakly. He struggled to hold back his tears. His chest hurt so bad he thought he'd break down crying right then and there.
"You're sure..?"
Zak nodded.
"Alright.. as long as you're okay."
"I'm great! I'm feeling kind of tired though, so I'm going to go take a nap. See you tomorrow?"
Darryl smiled and put up a thumbs up.
"Sounds good! Night, Zak."
Zak smiled back, and quickly walked to his room. Once inside, he let out a deep breath and locked the door. He walked over to his bed, laid down, and looked at the ceiling, his cheeks stained with tears.
He started silently sobbing, being careful not to let Darryl hear. The last thing he would want is him to comfort him again.
He brought an arm up over his eyes and had his other hand on his chest, clutching his hoodie where his heart was. The pain of heartbreak was unbearable.
After a while, he calmed down and wiped his face. His eyes were red and puffy.
Well, that's that. I have to bury my feelings.
