Chapter 17 Get in,get out not the case

After Piper's vegetarian meal it was the first dreamless sleep I've had since my time on Calypsos's island. And that's not a good thing. Today I was ready for adventure. We had tracked down an enemy encampment a few miles outside of Hong Kong. It was well hidden by forest and mountains so the mortals wouldn't poke their noses where they shouldn't. But that didn't stop us. Hazel made sure to manipulate the mist just enough so that it was disguised as a crashed cargo plane. When we got the schematics to the base we started forming a plan."The base runs 100 miles underground" Annabeth said "Its divided into 100 floors top to bottom. Each one is 1 mile above the other. The whole thing runs on machines" "It's bound to be swarming with guards. Whoever goes down there is gonna need to be stealthy." Frank spoke up "If it runs on machines" I said "Then being the tech expert I should go in" part of me hopped someone would object but no such luck. "We're also gonna need a good strategy" Ryena said "Since my mom is the goddess of war. And war always requires a good strategy I should go to" everyone agreed with that logic "We'll need a small team down there" Carter pointed out "Mabye only Leo and Ryena should go" Thalia spoke up. Dang it so close to having any kind if fun on this thing. "Alright" Ryena said "When should we leave?" "Well seeing as patrols have started circling the base I'm guessing soon" Walt said. No less than 20 minutes later. Me and Ryena were scouting out the exterior. I must have looked tense because Ryena said something "Don't worry. We'll be in and out" "Yeah you say that now" I said "Just wait until this whole thing all goes to Hades" and at that happy note we sneaked down towards the entrance. I noticed the lock was the same kind they used on bank vaults "Amateur hour" I muttered under my breath as I cracked open the lock in a matter of seconds. The locks on the Argo2 were designed like the ones at Fort Nox. Once we were in we kept our heads down and headed straight to the elevator. And despite all the guards we didn't get noticed. I hit the button for the 50th floor. Obviously that's where all the power came from "What are you doing?" Ryena asked "We need to shut down the place right? So the power source is bound to be on the 50th floor" she looked at me like I was stupid "You idioto we're here to learn their plans,see if there are any other bases and get outta here" "Oh dios mio do you not understand. If the enemy is here right now. We gotta shut this whole thing down" We could both tell we weren't gaining any ground "Ok how about this" Ryena said diplomatically "We set charges on the main power source. Then we find out what their up to. Then once the Argo2's at a safe distance we can blow it up" "I like that deal" I agreed. Once we reached the 50th floor it was a bunch of bridges leading to a big glowing thing in the center that must had been the energy source. We walked up to it to find a suitable spot to plant the charges. Once we did I started the timer we would have to move quickly. We looked at the schematics again to see where the archives where. 28th floor. Great. Once we got to the 28th floor I checked the timer. We had one hour left "We gotta hurry" I told Ryena "I know,I know" she said. "Watch my back" she told me. She plugged a hard drive into the computer and started a download. Once it was complete we ran for the elevator and spammed the 1st floor button. We were so close to getting out I could almost see us watching this place go up in flames. But once we got up to the 1st floor they were waiting for us. We were so close but so far.
