"What do you mean banned?" I asked Ethan as we walked towards the Cosmology building, where him and I would be taking our attunement placement tests. Though I was deathly nervous about it, what Ethan had explained to me back at Dammom sqaure had me shook enough to forget about the test.

"I mean the spell you performed is illegal - it's what we call a dark spell. A dark spell is one where, though it fixes something, it takes something as a sacrifice.
I this case, it traded memory for power - that's why no one's reported you yet,"

"Then how come you remember," I asked as we rounded up the cobblestone path, the building in our sights. "Because my dad works for the Attunement Management Order. When I was born, he had someone cast a spell on me to make me immune to dark spells should they desire to take something from me,"

"What about me? Why do I remember?" I asked further. Turning to face me, "You're the caster. And Jake, can we please cut this talk until we're alone? You're already asking a lot of questions and if other people find out, I'd be dead from asking so many questions," he pressed and I nodded. Isn't it strange, how I got from absolutely no body to a person with abilities to casting forbidden spells? In a way, it scares me that inside me, all this time I had this power that, at any moment, would've decided to take a life if it wanted. All the times I'd spent with Todrick, I could've killed him. I could kill anyone there.

The building was large and had massive windows running from the side walls to the ceiling like they normally would in a greenhouse. There were benches just beneath the gargantuan windows, lengthy ones that stretched all the way to a flaxen wall that held a massive white door with bizarre bejewelled decoration. Looking up, I noticed perhaps the weirdest thing in this campus yet: the sky was fourth dimensional in that, as you walked the normal blue plain would shift and move with you while the black of space would seep out a few bits. Whoa I gasped.

I sat next to Ethan on one of the benches which was lined with a massive array of students. Some were conversing (they were possibly friends), others had their eyes glued to their phones, others were silent, unspeaking hermits. While I was observing, a girl, possibly of East-Asian decent sat next to me. With her long raven hair, her dark eyes enhanced by subtle eyeliner and eyeshadow, small and lean figure, she was attractive. She reminded me of the photo I saw of my dad. He was Asian and this for some reason, made me feel obliged to talk to her.

"Hey," I greeted softly. She smiled, pushed her hair back and responded, "hey. I'm Phoebe Eom - yes, I am miss Warbel's daughter," she said and we both chuckled softly. "What attunement do you think you're going to get?" She asked returning to the book on her lap. "I'm not sure yet. Also, I don't really know much about the attunements, so, until I found out, I'm not so sure," I answered amd she gave me a dark look that radiated disappointment and complete disgust.

"I haven't met anyone so disorganized. How do you not know your attunements? How did you even qualify for the college of you don't know something as simple as that?! She glowered and I looked at her in shock; she was nice just a moment ago! How had her tone suddenly shifted from "nice friendly girl" to "I will eat you alive"? I'd thought she was done but she only kept going on and on:

"Do you even know what you're doing here or do you really not know anything and can't really decide?" She burned and at that point, I began trying to get her to stop, "Ca-". "How did you even make it past the sentries to begin with? My mother was right when she said that the school's acceptance standards are lowering! If they let you in, they might as well let mad people in," she stabbed harder, cutting me off. Was I angry? No. Enraged? Fully. How dare she? All I said was that I wasn't sure - I did not, in any part of my conversation with her, allow her to dig at me. The angrier I got, the grumblier the vibration in me got - and at that point, it was a small earthquake coursing though my veins.

She felt it. She felt the fury of my magic in her eyes from the way that she stopped. Something in her had changed, she looked uncomfortable and unable to speak, like something had caught her tongue... but the same was happening to other students! Ethan turned to me "Jake... what happened?" He asked before he clasped his head "How..." he began before the door opened.

The jewel encrusted door flew open letting a gust of wind through the hall. Out of it, walked a tall, light skinned man with a well groomed goatee, wearing a golden top-hat and dark robes. Unlike anyone else here, his presence was one that I could feel. It was like standing in a tornado and having the wind moving around you at the speed of a fighter jet. Though not nearly as much as effective as the red cloaked man's from Dammom square.

With a crossed face, he strode over to where we me, Ethan and Phoebe were sat. Phoebe instantly regained her composure and looked up at him, pride swelling in her eyes "Mr. Nadin, Good Morning. I have a complaint -" I knew she was going to do that I thought as she continued "This boy here, has absolutely no -"

"Idea of what he's capable of" In a low grumble, with a dark expression, Mr. Nadin cut her off and her eyes flew open in shock. She began to stutter as he narrowed his eyes at me and at that, the humming inside of me immediately grew tenfold. Ethan looked at me shocked, taking me by surprise. "You," he pointed towards me. "Follow me,"
