EXT. BLAYLOCK RANCH - DALLAS, TX - SUMMER 10:00 AM 2006

Top of a tree line with morning sun bursting over and

through the leaves. PULL BACK to reveal the sources of the

laughter with two 5-year-old boys playing cowboys and

Indians in the tall yellow grass.

EXT. RANCH DIRT ROAD - 10:00 AM

F-150 Truck of JAKE's Dad coming up the road to pick him

up. Laughter continues along with child like imitations of

gun sounds.

Jake's dad gets out to greet DERRICK'S Dad.

The Truck door slams. They shake hands and then Jake's

father signals for him to come on with a smile.

RUSSELL is cordial but not warm.

DERRICK

Guess I will see you on Tuesday --

JAKE

Okay buddy, see you later!

Jake's feet running away from camera with dads out focus in

the background of the shoes.

INT. HORSE STABLE - 10:00 AM

RUSSELL, is wrestling a bail of hay into the center of the

stable and cutting the binding the way he had done a 1,000

times.

A Young 5-year-old Derrick Comes running in. His father can

hear his boots coming.

Russell has hay in his hands waiting to throw at Derrick as

soon as he turns the corner, a common game that they play

before they both put hay into the Stalls together.

Derrick brushes one of the horses on the nose in

admiration.

RUSSELL

Did you guys have fun this

morning?

DERRICK

(Processing his

Question)

(MORE)

DERRICK (CONT'D)

Yeah-- we had a good time dad. --

Dad, Why don't you like Jake's

dad?

RUSSELL

What makes you ask that? --

DERRICK

Because every time you see him,

you just shake his hand, you never

invite him in or tell jokes with

him like you do all of your other

friends.

RUSSELL
