Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the red curtains, the golden glow casting long looming shadows across the tall walls, while the morning birds song was like soft bell chimes.

The morning was early and the day new with the large house that the sun was shining on still quiet and unmotivated to wake. The maids and butlers were still asleep, their fist shift not startling till later, while the mistress of the house was tucked safely under the sheets. The youngest in the house, Benjamin, was sprawled across his mattress with two small pups curled under his arms. The house was barley ready to be woken.

The door of the master bedroom creaked open slowly as a man, tall and handsome, shuffled in. He was dressed in formal military gear with his blonde hair and mustache combed neatly. His kind blue eyes were fixed on the woman lying on the bed.

Her white hair was wild and short, sticking up in random directions, while her mismatch eyes were closed to the sunlight. The thick duvet was wrapped tightly around her slim figure but her tattooed shoulders were still bare. Charlie Lovelace smiled at his wife and sat on the bed beside her. The mattress sank under his weight and Claud let out a small hum at the shift of weight. The blonde placed his hand on her shoulder, her skin feeling like silk under his rough hands, and shook her softly.

She let out a whine, refusing to open her eyes, and swatted the man's hand away. Charlie laughed gently and leaned down to place gentle butterfly kisses on the tattoo on her neck.

"Wake up, love" he whispered.

Claud's tired eyes snapped open but shut quickly when the harsh sunlight blinded her instantly. A sigh passed her chapped lips, eyes narrowing as the dream like memory faded, before she pushed herself up onto her elbows. The duvet fell to around her waist as the two dogs that lay at the foot of her bed woke. Hercules perked up and barked softly, his boney tail beating against the mattress as she patted his head, while Titus just wagged his tail.

Slowly, Claud pulled herself out of her warm bed and set her feet onto the cold wooden floor. She wiggled her toes and stretched her hands above her head before pulling on a red silk robe just as the door creaked open. One of the older maids, Agatha, came in holding a tray of breakfast. Her dark skin glowed in the morning light while her kind brown eyes brightened as they settled on Claud's standing form.

"Morning, Miss Holmes!" She cooed cheerfully as she placed the tray on the round table in the center of her room. She wiped her hands on her white apron before turning and letting out a startled gasp at the sight of the two canines lounging on the bed. "Oh! Shoo you silly mutts!"

Claud laughed and sat down in one of the chairs as she watched her dogs leap from her bed and out the door. Agatha let out a huff and placed her hands on her wide hips. She turned to the young woman and wagged a finger at her as if she was scolding a child "you shouldn't let them up on the bed, they shed everywhere!"
