'Am I just waiting for something that is impossible?'

The next day was a lazy one, but on their fourth day here, you thought you'd take them into town and have a look around the shops.

They messed around in the shops for a bit, but you almost felt like Ashton always had an eye on you.

Calum decided that you'd all go to the american diner for an early dinner and you sat in a booth, squished somewhat uncomfortably between Luke and Ash. Once you had all ordered, the boys started to discuss their album. As you sat and listened, you caught Luke looking between you and Ash nervously, and decided to rest a hand on his knee.

"It's okay." You mumbled, only loud enough for Luke and nobody else to hear. You feared that you'd made things worse when he blushed a bit but he returned to the boys' conversation effortlessly.

"Oh, you know what, I don't think we've told (y/n) about next week yet, have we?" You looked up at Calum, who was talking.

"What?" You asked, worried. "You don't have to leave again, do you?"

"Yeah." Luke's sadness was genuine and you wanted to hug him, or maybe kiss him, but you didn't dare to.

"But only for a couple of days, babe, don't worry. We're going for a couple of interviews in the city, but we'll come back straight after, yeah?" He looked hopefully at you and you nodded. He smiled softly, and for a second looked as though he was going to reach for your hand and squeeze it reassuringly; although he flinched it away and his expression quickly changed when he realised his minor mistake.

"Did you just call (y/n), babe?" Calum chuckled in a light tone but Ashton seemed to take it differently.

"Luke." He said warningly, and you insinctively snapped your hand away from Luke's leg.

"What's the big deal, Ash?" You started shoveling your fries down in the hopes of getting the bill and leaving sooner. You couldn't stand the tension.

"Nothing (y/n), it doesn't concern you. Luke, I'd like a word with you later." You disagreed so strongly that you thought you might implode, but stayed silent and focused on your food.

When you got home, you hung around in the hallway to listen to Ash and Luke; you knew it was wrong, but you had to hear what Ash wanted to speak to Luke about so desperately.

"Mate, I've told you this before. She's off limits, don't make me hate you, please?"

"Look, Ash, honestly it didn't mean anything. She's not into me, you know that. I'm not going to mess around with your little sister."

You felt your heart plummet. It didn't mean anything; you should have known..

"Yeah well, you better watch it. Cause if it turns out that you've been lying about this, you'll totally regret it."

"Right. You've got nothing to worry about, I swear."

"You told me you didn't like her in that way..?" Ash sounded sad and dissapointed, and you couldn't help but wonder how many times this topic had been discussed before.

"It's fine, Ash." Luke said. But he didn't exactly deny it.
