The news is that nothing lasts forever. The good news is that bad times will end. The bad news is that good times will end.
You wake up alone, and have a moment when you’re terrified that you’ve been left. But then you smell the eggs and bacon from the kitchen and grin into the blanket that was now draped over you; you’re not alone.
As you walk into the kitchen, you realise that you had a dreamless night. Relief spreads through you. Maybe you can get better.
Ashton holds a frying pan and serves up eggs and bacon as you make your way into the room.
Calum and Michael are at the breakfast bar.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty.”
You jump and spin to see Luke in his nirvana shirt and a hoodie. You whack him firmly on the chest. “You dick!” You squeal. “You gave me a heart attack.”
He just chuckles softly. “Sorry (y/n).”
You roll your eyes, and everybody helps themselves to some breakfast.
After everybody has gone off to do their own thing, you sit in your living room with Ashton and Michael; all three of you on your laptops. Luke has been in the shower for a while, and Calum has gone shopping.
“Hey, (y/n),”
You pull your eyes away from twitter to look at your elder brother. “Hm?”
“So, last night, after your, erm…” He shakes his head. “Anyway, Michael made some calls to our management and families, ‘cause we were supposed to start the tour in less than a fortnight. We were going to be leaving England tomorrow.”
Your heart sinks. How will you get by without the boys here with you? You can’t imagine being alone again now.
“We’ve messed around with some of the dates, but we’re leaving for Australia a week tomorrow.”
“Oh.” You smile slightly, but a week isn’t a very long time. You begin to worry about how you’re going to cope.
“And you’re coming with us.”
“What?” How is this possible? Could you really be this lucky?
“You’re coming with us!” Michael grins.
You get up and jump onto Ashton who had been sat on the sofa, and you engulf him in a hug.
“Thank you so much.” You say softly.
Michael continues the explanation. “Tour’s been postponed a week so we’ll still have some down time at home before we have to start playing shows.”
“Don’t thank me.” Ashton says. “Thank Mikey. Whilst everybody else was panicking, he was making plans to keep us all together.”
You crawl off of Ash and attack Michael with a hug as well. “Thanks Mikey.”
He smiles. “My pleasure.”
Is it possible that nothing bad will happen? How can it be that everything appears to be good again?
You tell yourself that you mustn’t get your hopes up; anything could go wrong.
Luke walks into the room fully dressed but with wet hair, “You heard the good news?”
“Yep!” You beam, pulling him into a hug. “I don’t know how I’d survive without you.” You murmur.
“You’d be fine.” He says quietly, making you pull away a little.
“What are you on about? I need you.”
“Never mind.” He smiles and shakes his head. “I know that I wouldn’t survive at all without you. I need you too. I love you.”
You feel a pang of guilt when you allow a silence to follow his words that should have been returned. He deserves to be with somebody who loves him.
You kiss him and forget about it.
It has been a day since Ash gave you the good news about Australia and as you lay in bed with Luke, you think about how you’re going to see your mum again. You know that loves you, and she often calls to check up on you, though they never last more than ten minutes and happen rarely. You left Australia on fairly bad terms with her, because she thought you had been naïve to follow the first boy who said he loved you half the way across the world, but you ignored her. You feel the bed shift beside you and see Luke getting up and picking up a towel.
“I’m gonna shower.” He says shortly before leaving.
You nod and sit up, opening your laptop.
[A/N: Sorry for the super short chapter! But this was sort of a filler; there's lots of angst in part seventeen <3 Thanks for reading!]
