The next day, Jeno was across the room from me.
It had been quite a while since we had actually seen each other. He ignored me in school which I kind of felt guilty for.
It was my time to tell them what he did to me. I didn't want to say anything but had to.
I was slightly less nervous today since I had already stood here before but my tummy was still eating itself out.
'Um,' my voice trembled. 'He didn't really do anything,' I said quietly. Confused sounds came from the audience along with some whispers but it soon died down.
'Would you care to explain more?' I got asked.
'He was the one who stopped them from bullying me. But he got hurt himself,' I began and took a breath in. 'Then, they kicked him out - which is why he isn't in the gang anymore,' I finished off.
It was silent for a moment before I was asked another question. 'Did he not do anything at all to you? Or had it been like this since the beginning?'
I thought back to the beginning.
He was cold and rude. And he did hurt me a little. They all did. They all beat me up in the beginning. I sighed.
'At first...he did. All of them beat me up together with a few kicks here and there.' I took another breath in and continued. 'but he didn't go as far as the others. He tried to protect me,' I glanced at Jeno.
He was looking right at me.
A hint of surprise written on his face.
The questions continued until they started to ask Jeno.
'What made you do that?'
He remained silent and looked down. After a few seconds, the questioner was going to ask again but he spoke up.
'I've never talked to a girl before.' He started. 'Y/N was the first girl I ever tried to bully and I realised that it was wrong, I tried to tell the others but they didn't listen to me.' He rambled on.
'Once Y/N's mum died, they left her alone on the streets to suffer but luckily she found someone.'
The lawyers sitting scribbled down some notes. Jeno continued.
'The truth is...' he hesitated. 'Please continue, Mr Lee, we must know the truth,'
He looked straight at me. I already knew of his feelings. He had already confessed and I felt nothing.
But his gaze at this moment was strong. Like he was asking me to pay attention when it was the judge who was meant to be listening.
'The truth is...I like Y/N,' he moved his gaze away from mine and looked at the man asking questions once again.
'and that's why I wanted to protect her,'
lmao this sucks and it's short but hopefully, the next one will be better.
