POV Lydia
The bell finally rings, meaning it's lunch. On Monday mornings I have all of my "geeky" classes, that I happen to find very interesting, and I don't really have any friends in those classes. Doesn't really matter to me though, I only have my eyes on the prize, Architecture at Yale.

"Yo Lyd! Come here for a sec" I hear someone scream at me from the other side of the hallway as soon as I step out of the classroom. The voice belongs to Grayson, one of the boys in my friend group. He's chill, he's definitely the boy I've gotten closest to in high school.

"What's up?" I say and gestures to him to follow me to my locker to leave my bag. Gray and his twin Ethan are the biggest jocks ever, but they're cool. People are really jealous of me for getting into their group, apparently that's very rare. I've not been a part of their group for too long, just since the beginning of our junior year. Before that I was nothing more than a geek that nobody cared about.

"Nothing, I just don't wanna go to the cafeteria alone" he chuckles and I giggle as I bend down to my locker. I throw my bag in there before slamming the locker shut.

"So, how was your geek classes you smartass?" He asks as we walk towards the cafeteria, me dying to get some food. I'm starving and I have PE after this, so I need all the energy I can get.

"Hey, I'm not a smartass I just have goals in life. And my geek classes were good, thanks for asking"

"You're a smartass, admit it. You're gonna go to Yale in less than a year for god's sake" gray laughs as he scoops the food up on his plate and I do the same.

"If I get in" I correct him and he laughs at me, ruffling my hair lightly and I growl. I hate when he does that.

"Come on, everyone knows that you're guaranteed acceptance. You're incredible, I don't know how you do it" he says as we go to our usual table, where everyone is already sitting.

"You're so sweet gray" I smile and sit down on one of the empty spots, Grayson sits down on the opposite side beside his twin. Those two are like combined with a thread that's impossible to cut. I sit beside my best friend, Sierra. There are various girls in this group, but I only really hang out with Sierra outside school. I spend much more time with the boys, for some strange reason I've never really gotten along well with girls.

"Hey everyone" I say cheerfully and get a few heys back, and then they all continue with their conversations.

"You wanna study at my place after school?" Sierra asks me and this is part of the reason I really bonded with her, she's just as ambitious as me and we've became friends through the books.

"I have to get Lacey after school and babysit her, but you can come to my place if you want. I'll just give her the iPad and she'll leave us alone" oh Lacey, my beloved baby sister. She's 9, so there's quite an age difference between us. That's why I have to babysit her.

Our family is.... well, exciting. My mom got pregnant with me while being a senior in high school, and she gave birth just a few weeks after graduation, meaning she was 17 at the time. My teachers find that pretty funny, they were her teachers while being pregnant with me and now they are my teachers too since I go to the same school she went to. My dad has never been in the picture, he left as soon as he found out about the pregnancy. Three years later mom met Cory who I now call my dad, I can't remember a life without him therefore I call him dad. Cory and my mom got Lacey a few years after they met, therefore the age difference between me and my sister.

"Yeah, sounds good. Maybe you could help me with my chemistry class? I don't get anything" Sierra asks and I nod, tutoring is a natural part of our friendship. She helps me with history since I suck at it and she's amazing, and I help her with anything she needs helps with.

"Of course"

"Yo yo guys, who's going to Avery Judd's party this weekend? I've heard it's gonna be huge" a guy named Kendall suddenly speaks up and everybody nods. Oh Avery Judd, school's sweetheart. Remember Regina George from mean girls? Avery is a living version of her. But I've gotta give it to her, her parties are awesome.

"If you aren't there you're a loser, so everyone's going wether you like it or not" Kendall continues and we all cheer, making the whole cafeteria turn their attention to us.

I'd lie if I said I'm not a party animal, because I really am. I live for the weekends and nothing beats a good party with my friends. The funniest thing is that my parents think that I'm at Sierra's place studying all night when I'm really at a party, and I love the feeling of doing something you're not supposed to be doing. I'm very open and honest with my mom with everything else though, that's probably why she's not suspecting anything.

I had just taken my last bite of my sandwich when the bell rings again, meaning we have to hurry to our next lesson. I actually have PE with Ethan and Grayson which I love, we are all very competitive even when it comes to the smallest things and PE is a perfect place to compete. One of them usually wins, but it's fun anyway.

At the end of the day Sierra and I get Lacey, before heading home to study. The thing with us is that when we say we're studying, we actually are. Since my goal is to get in to Yale and Sierra's goal is MIT, we have to work. It's not something you get by lazying your way through school.
