Chapter 1

Clary’s POV

It was early Sunday morning when I woke to the smell of coffee being made in the kitchen. I looked beside me and realized that the person, who usually lay there beside me, was no longer there. I dragged myself out of bed and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Once there, I was greeted with a warm smile and a steaming cup of black coffee from my love. "You're in a good mood." I said to Jace. He looked at me, and his gold eyes locked with my green ones. "Of course I am! Do you not remember what today is?" He asked me excitedly.

"Sunday?" I asked with a confused look on my face.

"Clary," he said to me, looking disappointed, "think hard." I thought of what today was. Sunday? November 6th? He must have noticed my confusion, because he looked at me and then just shook his head, obviously upset.

"Clarissa, it's our 3 year anniversary." He said to me. "Did you forget again?" A look of shock took over my face. I cupped my mouth with my hands. It can't be. Just yesterday was-UGH! Stupid, stupid me! How could you forget your own anniversary! Nice going Clary. I thought to myself.

"Jace, I'm so sorry! It completely slipped my mind! With work and helping my mother around at home, I'm so sorry. I'll make it up to you. I promise!" He just gave me a sad smile and walked over to me. He took the cup of coffee from my hands and placed it on the counter, then wrapped his arms around me. Three years married and I still got butterflies when he hugged me. "Its fine" he whispered and then kissed the top of my head. I looked up at him and kissed his lips. They were soft and tasted faintly of coffee. I entangled my fingers in his soft, curly golden hair. A pleasant moan came from inside his throat. I pulled away and smiled at him. "I'll make up for it." I whispered. He bent down and put his lips to my ear. "I know you will." He whispered, and then pressed his lips to my forehead. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks, he must have noticed because he started to grin. I pulled away and walked over to the cupboard and took out some bread. "Want some toast?" I asked him. He shook his head and between sips of coffee told me that he was meeting with Alec and Magnus at Taki's. I nodded and put my bread in the toaster. Standing in front of the toaster, waiting for my bread to be ready, Jace came over and hugged me from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder.

"I need to leave in 10 minutes." He whispered in my ear.

"Okay." I answered, turning around in his arms so that I was now facing him. "When are you coming home? I want to know how long I have to prepare the world's best anniversary date.” I smiled at him and he grinned down at me.

"I'll be home around 4:30." he answered, then leaned forward and kissed my lips. It was a gentle kiss, and probably could have lasted longer if it weren't for the fact that my toast popped and made me jump. Jace pulled away and started to chuckle. “Haha, very funny." I said to him with a smile on my face.

"I have to go; I'm going to be late. Bye, love you, and I expect the best date ever!" He said to me, smiling. I poked my tongue out at him and said "Oh, it will be!" I said and kissed him one more time before he hurried out the front door of our house.

After finishing my breakfast, I walked up to my bedroom and took a quick shower. After getting out and drying myself off, I pulled on a pair of jeans and a plain t-shirt. I walked down the stairs grabbing my purse and jacket from the hook. I quickly checked inside my purse making sure that my phone and keys were in it. Once I was certain that I had everything I’d need for the day, I walked out the front door, locked it and pulled out my phone and dialed a number. It rang four times before a chirpy voice answered.

“Clary! Hi! Happy anniversary!” Isabelle said.

“Hi, thanks. Did everybody remember except for me?” I realized afterwards that it sounded harsher than I intended.

“What?” she asked obviously confused.

“Never mind. Can I ask you a favour?” I asked her.

“Of course, anything.”

“Um, would you be able to help me plan out the perfect date for my anniversary?”

-Eeeeeh! I’m so glad you asked! Of course. Meet me at my place in ten. I have the perfect idea!” She said excitedly and then she hung up. I sighed and closed my phone. Typical Izzy I thought to myself. I put my phone away and got into my car, pulling out of the driveway and heading to her house.

Izzy’s house was about a 10 minute drive from mine. As soon as I pulled into her driveway she ran out of her house, wearing a black fitted dress with 2 inch heels, a downgrade from her usual look. As she came running up to me, her black hair falling behind her, she gave me a big hug as soon as she reached me. I looked at her and noticed that she was barely wearing any makeup; only a bit of eyeliner and mascara. Even then, she still looked stunning.

“Clary! It’s so good to see you!” Her eyes were shining a light brown in the morning light.

“It’s good to see you too, Iz.” I smiled and she started pulling me inside.

“Come on, before we start planning out your perfect date, there’s something I want to share with you.”

“Okay?” I said as she continued to drag me inside her house. Once inside, she ushered me to her living area and gestured for me to sit on the sofa, so I did.

“You sit, and wait here until I get back.” She told me. So I did as she asked and sat on the couch waiting for her to return.

Waiting in her living room, I decided to look around at all her pictures on the walls. There was some of Isabelle with her parents, some with her and Alec and a couple more of her on her wedding day, hand in hand with Simon. They both looked so happy and in love; they were laughing, and smiling and kissing. As I was looking at the pictures, a voice said from behind me “That was the best day of my life, but you know, I had to convince him to propose.” I turned around only to find Isabelle leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed over her chest, she was smiling, and I noticed that she was holding a small white envelope in her hands. She pointed towards the couch and raised her eyebrows. I rolled my eyes and went to sit back down on the couch.

“So what’s this big thing that you have to tell me?” I asked confused. She came and sat down on the sofa beside me, and handed me the envelope.

“Open it” she whispered. I took it from her hands and opened it. Inside was a picture, I pulled it out to look at it. As soon as I saw it I knew what it was. My jaw dropped and I put my hand over my mouth. Tears started to form in my eyes and I looked up from the picture at Izzy. She was smiling and had tears falling onto her cheeks. I was speechless; I just stared at her with my hand covering my mouth, nearly crying.

“There’s going to be a mini me mixed with a mini Simon, in just about nine months.” She said, still smiling, another tear rolled off of her cheek. I set the picture down and placed my hand on Izzy’s stomach. I smiled and then I started to cry. She placed her hands on top of mine and we sat there, crying together.

“Do me a favour though?” She asked. I nodded, wiping my tears with the back of my hands.

“Yes. Anything. What is it, Iz?” I asked looking into her eyes.

“Don’t tell Jace, or Alec, or Magnus. They don’t know yet. You’re the first one to know.” As soon as she said it, I felt so special. I’m the first one to know about Izzy and Simon’s pregnancy and I had to keep it a secret from my husband.

“I won’t tell. I promise, Iz.” I said with a big smile on my face, just thinking that in less than 9 months, there is going to be a little bundle of joy brought into this world, it could have Izzy’s jet-black hair and Simon’s hazel eyes. Hell, I don’t know what it’ll look like, but all I know is that I’ll love it. I thought. Putting the picture back in the envelope, I handed it back to Isabelle. She shook her head. “No, no, you can keep it. Simon and I have plenty.” She said, wiping her tears away. I nodded my head giving her a look that said Thank you.

“So” she said in a shaky voice, “how about we start planning that perfect date of yours.” I gave a slight laugh and put the envelope away in the pocket of my jacket.

“Sure” I said, and with that, she started shooting ideas at me, and I would shoot some back at her. We discussed the matter for about 25 minutes, until we both agreed on the perfect date.
