"Unfortunately, " Adam blatantly stated, "you know what they say, you can't choose your family."

"You're one to talk" Nick growled.

Adam just scoffed at his brother and turned his attention back to the redhead. "Just ignore him, shall we go?"

Kevin gave a hesitated nodded, still unsure as to what was going on. He had been wanting to leave the event for a while though, so he was taking the opportunity to do just that.

"This is why father chose me to be the heir. You have no respect for our family name." The blond growled lowly

Adam narrowed his eyes, "I chose not to be the heir. I have my own path to follow, not that old man. That's his problem."

"If you didn't go around doing things like this with EVERY man you find attractive we wouldn't have this problem." Nick shot back.

"Oh? So would you prefer I play dirty? Like how you did with the young man you brought as you 'boyfriend' tonight. How is that going by the way?" Adam fired with a cocky smirk.

Nick glared hard as if to telepathically warn his brother that he went too far. Adam didn't flinch.

"What are you talking about? What do you mean by " play dirty" and what does Edd have to do with it?" Kevin spoke again after hearing the two bicker further.

Nick seemed to freeze and go pale. Adam noticed and smirked at him, "Should I tell him, or you?"

~flashback~

"Leave him to me."

Edd just stood there stunned. "I'm...sorry?"

Nick circled the brunette like captured pray and repeated, "Leave him for me." He stopped at the brunette's side before adding, "and the lawsuit disappears."

"I...I don't understand, why?" Edd asked hesitantly

Nick rolled his eye and took a seat on one of the couches. "I fancy you, Vincent. I don't know why it is, but there is something about you. I'm sure that's how that friend of yours felt as well. So to put it blankly, I want you."

Edd listened to the blond, not moving from where he stood. To say he was surprised was an understatement. He was completely taken back and didn't know how to respond or react. Then he heard Nick laugh.

"You really are dense. I can't believe you fell for that," Nick chuckled. "Listen, in all honesty, I don't care about you. However, he does. So I just want to have some fun as payback. I wasn't serious about suing, it was just to put him in his place. But now that it caught your interest, I can use you to my advantage."

"Use me?"

"Alex is daubing his fashion line in a few days. I want you to be my date." Nick stated standing from the couch. "And you will say nothing, or even talk to that friend of yours or I'll change my mind on the lawsuit."

With that, the blond left before the brunette could get a word in. Walking out of the waiting room, Nick noticed Adam leaning against the doorway. He ignored him, simply stopping in front of him to say, "Disregard what you might have heard, " before walking away.

~end of flashback~

Kevin stood there processing what he had just heard. He felt rage bubbling in the pit of his stomach as he eyed Nick. "You sick bastard, " he growled in a deep venomous tone. Nick flinched and took a step back.

Adam stepped between the two, "Kevin he isn't worth..."

Kevin shot a glare at Adam that made the man step back. The redhead wanted to do nothing more than to rip that cocky blond to shreds, but he knew where he needed to be. He stormed off back into the ballroom scanning the room. When his eyes landed on his target he maneuvered his way through the crowd.

When he caught up to Edd he grabbed his arm firmly. "We're leaving,". He wasn't asking and he wasn't going to take no for an answer either. The brunette could see it in his eyes and hesitantly nodded.

Walking through the crowd, Kevin saw Naz and the others. "Hey guys I'm sorry but I have to go. Somethings come up." It wasn't a complete lie and everyone wished him a good night. Except for Naz who knew her friend better than anyone. Her eyes narrowed and a brow raised. Kevin gave her a look that said 'I'll explain later' and she simply nodded, letting him go.

Once outside the ballroom, Kevin remembered he came with Crystal. "Shit, " he cursed through gritted teeth. Then he remembered where they were and made a b-line to the reception desk.

"Hello, I would like a room please." The redhead spoke politely despite his actual mood.

The lady at the desk smiled and nodded. The brunette nervously waited for the redhead. He didn't speak, he honestly didn't know if he could at the moment. After a moment, the lady handed the two a room key. "You will be in the north building on the tenth floor. Enjoy your stay."

"Thank you, " Kevin gave a charming smile that made the girl blush. He took the key and glanced back at Edd who flinched but nodded.

The two walked quietly towards the elevators. When the doors opened, Kevin stepped aside to let the brunette enter first. Kevin stepped and pushed the button to their floor, watching the doors slowly start to close.

"Kevin I..."

"Lied to me, didn't come to me for help, ignored me because the fucking blond told you to, what else?" Kevin spoke in a monotone voice.

Edd flinched again and lowered his head. The rest of the way up, the two rode in uncomfortable silence. When they reached their flood Kevin led the way to their room and opened the door. Edd walked in but stayed standing once in the spacious room.

The redhead walked in behind, locking the door. He stood in front of Edd staring him down.

"Why Edd? Why didn't you come to me after you knew what he was planning? I could have easily settled things" Kevin asked, pain present in his voice but his face remained emotionless.

Edd looked down, unable to face the redhead so close. He felt tears pooling in his eyes and sniffled softly. "I thought I could handle it if I just went and talked to him. I didn't mean for this to happen. I wanted to go to you, but he threatened me. He took my phone and put a tail on me so that I couldn't talk to you. That's why...*sniffle* that's why I was so cold to you in the parking lot...*sniffle* that's why I didn't come to you for help. I was scared, " the boy cried looking up into Kevin's eyes, "I'm sorry. I never wanted any of this to happen Kevin."

Kevin's stone face broke, his eyes softening. He sighed and wrapped the boy in a loose hug, feeling him flinch but then grip the back of his suit. "Nick isn't somebody you can just talk to. You should have known that, but...thank you. For trying to help me, now let me help you, " he said putting a protective hand on the boy's head.
