Unfortunately, I couldn't stay unconscious for long. I woke up in the ambulance the police had called, which just seemed ridiculous to me. It's not like I'd been shot. Emily was sitting beside me, looking down at her phone. She jumped when it rang and answered it immediately.

"Hello? No, I've told you everything I know Zayn. We're on our way to the hospital. Well meet us there then. Tell the others not to freak out. Thanks. See you soon then. Bye."

So they knew. I still was having trouble processing that my best friend could do this to me. She was going to kill me! And now... was she dead or just wounded? She wasn't here with us.

"I can hear you thinking it's so loud. Relax. You're safe, you just could possibly have a concussion from hitting the ground so hard. You're not the only one; Skylar passed out too. She's in a different ambulance," Emily told me, startling me out of my thoughts.

"Is she okay?" I asked, dreading the answer.

"As okay as you are, I'd imagine. You're not going to have a good few weeks here. There will be publicity and court dates... but you're okay, and it will pass," she replied. I nodded.

Mica did this. She hated me so much for being famous now, but I didn't understand why. If our situations had been reversed, I'd be nothing but happy for her.

"Zayn and the boys are meeting us at the hospital, and I've called Beth. She and Matt have asked that you call them as soon as you can. Also, David was there, and he asked me to pass on his well wishes," Emily said quietly after a few minutes. We were almost to the hospital, and I could already picture the crowd of reporters. Great.

"Thank you. I don't know what I would have done today without you. Can you make one more call for me?" I asked after some hesitation. She nodded. "My cell has my father's number. Will you call him and let him know I'm going to be in the hospital?"

"Sure. If that bitch answers, don't expect me to hold back though," she replied with a slight smile. I nodded my consent.

"Hello, Mr. Miller? I'm a friend of your daughter's. I have her phone because we're in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Maybe you should ask your wife. Sorry, that was rude of me I guess. I just don't like seeing my friends like this. A concussion. Yes well, that would be Mica. I think she'd like that, as long as it's just you. You're welcome. Bye."

I wasn't paying attention to their conversation. I was back to thinking about my future. I couldn't leave. I refused to abandon everything and everyone that I loved just because of one person. Mica could go to hell for all I cared. I never wanted to see her again.

Fate is a bitch, because I had to be wheeled past Mica to get to the room they had assigned me. She was going into surgery for the wound in her shoulder, and she was conscious. Her glare didn't affect me like mine thought it would. Guess that's what happens when someone tries to kill you.

The boys were waiting just outside of the room, and Zayn was at my side before I could even blink. I gave him a smile that he just couldn't return, and then went back to thinking.

"Haley, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I should have been there to protect you!" he started. Figures he'd blame himself.

"You didn't raise the gun, Z. I don't think you could have stopped her from aiming it at me. She didn't pull the trigger," I replied. Niall frowned.

"You get that she was going to, right? You're not thinking she was just... I don't know, joking?" he asked seriously.

"I know that she had every intention of killing me, Niall, but thank you for that reminder. Relax, I'm not going to break. At least not right now. Will one of you do me a favor and go check on Skylar? They won't let me do anything until I've been seen to," I responded. Niall nodded and walked away down the hall. Maybe I'd been harsh, but they couldn't blame me for that.
