Ever since the world came to be, you weren't the only ones on this planet.

There was a world hidden inside the fabric of yours.

Yes, the stories you heard are true. Fairy tales of Downworlders and Shadowhunters, demons and angels. Waiting to be discovered.

Was the world ready for it when it happened, or was this going to be our destiny anyway?

You see, it wasn't always like this, as you know if you're reading this. Yes, I understand that you may not want to read on, afraid of what I might say, but it is imperative that you continue reading on, for you are the one who shall help your soon-to-be leader. But, if you tell the enemy, the fate of the world would be thrown off balance, for the fate of the world now rests in your hands.

I understand that you also have a million questions, one of which may be as to why would I be writing this. Well, let me introduce myself and explain.

My name is Edith Prior.

I told my family to leave me and flee the unbearable thoughts and sights of man and start a new civilization, for my sons and my only daughter will be the future of this world.

See, the outside world is not safe. Only the people whose mind works in a million different ways can save us. You may be afraid of them, but know this: they can save you. For when the person you thought less of, who you thought was the weakest, steps forward to risk their life continually, is who your leader will be.

So now, the story begins. What was the phrase people used when telling stories? Oh, yes. Once upon time, there was a whole different world out there, one not near as advanced as yours. It was called Earth, and I lived in America, at the time everything was fine. Nothing was out of the ordinary. It started out just like any other day.

Or so we thought.

----

When I was young, I woke up to go to school, just like any other day.

And something happened that the world was not ready for. The world was split in two, the Good and the Evil. And these people were completely Evil.

Jonathan, Valentine, and Camille were some of the most powerful creatures that have walked this earth. Valentine, a Shadowhunter, wanted to cleanse the world of all Shadowhunters that were against him. Demons, monsters, and Valentine would take over the worlds and create havoc, chaos, and disharmony. As for Jonathan, he was Valentine's son, and my friend Clary's brother, or to be more precise, her long lost brother that was part demon, part Shadowhunter. As for Clary, she was a Shadowhunter with more angel blood than usual, but we will meet her later.

Jonathan was vicious. All he wanted to do was kill and stay by his father's side until one of them was dead, but he let his father down. Valentine was killed in battle. Unfortunately, his scheme lived on, and Jonathan was going to make sure it all went according to plan.

Our world did not know what hit them, on the morning of April 17.

I was in my room admiring the Post-It notes stuck to my wall. Each of them had a different animal, drawn by Clary. Suddenly, the lights went out, the sky was pitch black, and the only source of illumination was the glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling.

But it was only 9:48 in the morning.

Next thing I knew, the sky had turned to a burning red amber, crows cawing constantly, an odd squeak coming from the walls, and there was an eight foot tall, charred, yet still burning creature standing over my mom. The was a pool of blood expanding across the floor and I froze, my heart racing. I was panicking, I couldn't control myself, and fear took over my body, shutting it down. I heard a blood curling scream come from the creature as it evaporated into thin air. Dust flew, debris spun in the air, and standing behind where the creature was, holding swords that looked to be made of glass, was Clary and her mother. Everything went black, and I felt a hard surface underneath me.
