----------------After an unnecessarily long conversation about it, Harry and Draco reached the conclusion that they would continue to act broken up should anyone who had previously known about it ask. (This included never telling Ron and Hermione, and also pretending to be broken up in front of Pansy, who only loved to pry.) It had actually been Draco who brought up the topic, surprising both Harry and himself. Harry had thought he would have to be the one to persuade Draco into keeping the relationship a secret, but Draco said anything to keep Pansy from asking me questions about sex.
Harry started acting a bit more friendly toward the Slytherins, and occasionally Draco would join the whole group for meals; though he enjoyed visiting with his friends, and Harry he never ate more than one meal at the mixed-up Gryffindor table a day, and he never ate with then for the same meal two days in a row. His most popular meal to eat with them, however, was dinner. He enjoyed watching Granger frantically do her homework whilst the rest of the group joked about. He also enjoyed the secret glances he shared with Harry, who was absolutely terrible at hiding them in general, but was even more horrendous at it when they were sitting face to face.
It was on a Friday night that Draco suggested his proposition to Harry. The boys were curled up on a couch in the Room of Requirements. Draco had been doing his homework, and Harry had been attempting to create a new color with sparks from his wand, an impossible feat that Draco had called "absolutely, positively, and most definitely stupid". Despite Draco's protests to Harry's theory, the boy kept trying, and he eventually wound up with the most horrid shade if blue that Draco'd ever seen, and he had to admit that he couldn't remember ever seeing it before this occasion; however, since it was a shade of blue, it didn't count, and Harry had to go back to square one. (The expression was something he'd had to explain to Draco, who thought it was a terrible way to say start over.)
It was after a few moments of consideration that Draco decided his idea was the best one he could come up with on such short notice. "Harry?"
Harry looked up from his book of spark colors (using the book was another reason Draco said that his theory would never work). "Draco?"
"How about we go on a date tomorrow night?"
Harry snorted. "A date? And how do you suppose we do that? We're not exactly public, you know."
"I know. But we could go out to the quidditch pitch for a picnic."
"And let the whole castle see us? No thanks."
"We could go out at night." Draco crossed his arms as Harry contemplated the idea.
"I suppose so. Is this a part two to our 'magic carpet date'?"
"Why do you use quotes?" Draco asked, slightly offended. "It was a real date."
"Sure." Harry said. "It was a 'real' date."
Draco threw a pillow at Harry. "It was too a real date!"
Harry laughed and dodged the pillow. "Fine, fine. It was. Do you want me to bring anything to this picnic?"
"Just yourself, and possibly a zipper for that mouth of yours."
Harry smiled. "Hm, how will you kiss me then?" He leaned in a pressed a light kiss to Draco's lips, to which Draco immediately responded, kissing Harry back twice as hard. When they pulled away, Draco started tapping his chin with his finger.
"I'll have to think of other ways to keep you quiet, then." Harry's eyes grew wide. "Not in an inappropriate way, of course," Draco added thoughtfully, and Harry laughed quietly. "So does this mean you'll go on a date with me?"
