The utterly handsome Daoming Si is an honest and straightforward kind of guy. If he liked a girl, he told her and everyone around her, and he told them as many times as they needed to be told so that it was drilled into their thick heads. If he didn't do that, wouldn't he just be waiting for someone to take her away? He lived by that motto. And now that he's finally found his girl, he made damn sure everyone knew it.
There was only one person who refused to fall in line with his plans; frustratingly, it was the very girl who owned his heart. Shancai did everything she could to push him away. Why, he didn't know – all he wanted to do was be with her, to cherish her and protect her. Why couldn't she just let him? He suspected it was because she didn't trust her heart around him, which is just silly because he could never hurt her. Not willingly, anyway.
It was obvious that simply telling Shancai that he liked her was not enough. She had repeatedly ignored his grand gestures and feigned ignorance. It drove him crazy! But recently, he figured he needed to change his tactics. According to the great Schumpeter theory, one must continually evolve and destroy the old to create the new, in order to gain the greatest benefit. Offering Shancai the privilege of being his girlfriend, asking her to accompany him to Hawaii on holiday, and following her to Sanya hadn't worked. Ximen and Meizuo suggested the usual cheap tricks – expensive champagne, fancy restaurants, rooftop views and strawberry scented cards. He shuddered. Shancai was nothing like those vapid and brainless girls that Ximen and Meizuo dated. She was kind, and interesting, and sweet. She cared about others. She was also strong, independent, and fierce. She would never fall for the same tricks as those girls – she was a million times the woman they were!
However, Xizuo were not wrong when they said he needed to romance Shancai. He just needed to do it in his own way. But he needed alone time with Shancai in order to romance her, and that was difficult because she ran away from him every opportunity she got. He might have given up on her but for those moments when he felt her eyes on him, looking at him as if he was some sort of puzzle she couldn't decide whether she wanted to piece together or simply abandon because of its complexity. The push-pull was magnetic between them, and her hesitation only made him want to work harder to tear down her walls. Silly girl. If only she would stop struggling, they could go ahead and fall in love already and live happily ever after. But then wouldn't that be very boring? He loved that she made him work for it. He had to earn her love and he was more than up to the challenge.
But first, he needed a date. Devising the card game and winning had been easy enough; getting Shancai to show up for the date was decidedly more difficult. Ah Si sighed as he rubbed his arms, trying to ward off the icy cold that was starting to invade his bones. He had been standing outside in the rain for three hours now and he had seen neither hide nor hair of her. He was soaked to the skin, his perfectly coifed hair now deflated, and he was sorely regretting his fashion choice to skip wearing a jacket so that he could show off the new sweater he had purchased for their date.
Somewhere in the second hour, long after his phone's battery had died, it slowly dawned on him that she may not show up at all. That realization had stung him to the core. But somehow, he knew she would come. She was Dong Shancai – he had won the card game fair and square and her sense of integrity dictated her appearance here today. He had faith that she would show up.
And she finally did – almost four hours in. He could have killed her for almost abandoning him, but she looked so adorable in her little ponytail and brand new pink jacket with the tag still attached that he instantly forgave her. She was here! And she had bought new clothes just for their date! Pure relief flowed through him and he couldn't help but throw his arms around her, the need to feel her warmth overwhelming and shattering. Thank you. Thank you for being you. Thank you for coming. Thank you for proving me right.
