It was a beautiful day in London and Shancai was immensely enjoying herself. The air was crisp and cold, but the sun was shining and she couldn't help the skip that manifested itself in her steps as she stole furtive glances at the tall handsome male next to her. She was exhilarated by his nearness and she didn't bother hiding it. Daoming Si caught her eye and smiled, his face lighting up, and she found herself smiling back at him.
"Are you happy, wife?"
Her heart skipped a beat and a rosy blush tinted her cheeks. She could really, really get used to hearing that.
Shancai nodded shyly as her hand reached out and sought his, their fingers lacing easily as they made their way down the street. She saw a pastry shop and ran ahead, pulling him with her as she excitedly pointed to the giant almond bear claw that had caught her eye. Ah Si couldn't help but chuckle at the satisfied expression on her face as she bit into the doughy softness.
"I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching you eat."
"It's so good! How can it be so good?" she asked happily, taking another bite. She reached out her hand to offer him a piece.
"How generous of you to save me the three crumbs that are left," he joked, automatically jumping to his right to avoid the swift kick he knew was coming.
Shancai glared at him. "You should have taken a bite when I offered it to you the first time!" She sprinkled the rest of the bear claw into her mouth and dusted her hands. "Fine, just buy another one. You have money."
Ah Si shrugged his shoulders and pulled out his empty pant pockets. "I have no money left," he said sadly. "I should have guessed that my little white pig would like to eat so much that she'd make me poor."
He took off running the minute he finished that sentence, laughing as he quickly wound his way around multiple people, a phone booth, and some store signs.
"You - !" Shancai chased after him as fast as she could, but being that her legs were infinitely shorter than his, gave up after the first few minutes. She stopped and crossed her arms, waiting.
One...
Two...
Three...
As expected, an offended voice quickly came up behind her. "Hey! Why did you give up so easily, huh? A wife is supposed to stick with her husband!"
Shancai grinned. "And a husband shouldn't lie to his wife," she said teasingly.
Happiness bloomed in his heart when she called him her husband and Ah Si couldn't help but reciprocate Shancai's teasing demeanor and playful banter.
"I, Daoming Si, never lie!" he announced, slowly backing away from her when he caught the determined look in her eyes.
Shancai pounced at him, grabbing at his jacket, her hands roaming over his clothes as she searched him thoroughly.
"Hey! Hey! You're getting handsy again!" Ah Si jokingly complained as he relished the feel of her hands on him.
Shancai smacked him in the shoulder for his comment before digging her hands into his coat pockets.
Aha!
She pulled out his wallet and smiled smugly at him. "I told you! You're so rich, how can you not have any money?"
"Wow, you're so realistic. Is that why you married me?"
That earned him another smack. "Okay, okay... I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I know you love me for me," he said apologetically, giving her his most charming smile and wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
