Ooookay! So someone asked me once, since when have I been writing. I replied, "since I was seven or eight".
She said. "No no. Not writing. I mean, writing stories."
I replied, "and that's exactly what I'm saying. I've been writing stories since I was seven or eight."
Don't believe me? It's ok. But its true. I don't remember exactly if I was seven or eight, but I do remember how I learned to make up a story. And that was round about a few months before I started writing them down. So yeah, seven or eight.
Back then, my Ammi (mom), siblings and I used to sit together in a circle. My Ammi used to start with a "once upon a time there was...."
She would start the story, and then all three of us would take turns making it up. It was something like;
"Once upon a time, there was a princess.."
".... she was very beautiful and rich." Said my sister.
"She had a dog named Timmy." I would add.
"One day Timmy got lost!" Said my brother. "The princess looked everywhere for him."
"She looked for him in the jungle by the castle." Ammi added.
And so on....
These stories went on for hours and hours, and had all sorts of tragical things in them.
I liked this activity a lot. It was the best part of my day. So, one night, I took my spare notebook and wrote down the story as I remembered it from that day. Later on, I started editing the parts I didn't like. Adding happy endings If there weren't and stuff.
I don't have the stories I wrote then, with me anymore. I lost them somewhere a long time ago. But I do remember this; that was how I learned to write a story.
