For 11 years my grandpa Garrett walked to school with me every day, but today was different. On my first day of Junior year, he was in the hospital having heart surgery.
So I walked alone, kicked a couple rocks, but never worried. My grandpa is strong.
My little brothers, Liam and Elliot, trailed behind me. They talked about video games and how Elli's 8th birthday is tomorrow, but they never spoke a word of grandpa.
Now that I think about it, I miss him a ot. We always talked about life on the way to school. He was always such a good person to vent to.
I think he likes me the most because I remind him of grandma. She died of cancer before I was born. Her name was Eileen Dove Morgan. I was named after her.
"EILEEN!!" I turned and found a figure darting towards me.
I rolled my eyes. It was Meghan. She's probably the most annoying girl ever. We're only 15, and she's probably dated 50 different guys. But somehow we're kind of friends. She barreled towards me and jumped into a hug. "I haven't talked to you in FOREVER!" She had food stuck in her teeth, I grimaced. She isn't the worst person to be around though. Celeste is the worst. Before I could run into anyone else, I speed walked to school with Meghan telling me all about the summer drama, though I wasn't really listening.

Entering my homeroom class was horrible. I barely knew any of the people inside. "Hey," Wood Walker sat down next to me and lowered his voice, "Are you uh going to the funeral tonight." That's right. Phoebe Thompson-- a junior at my highschool-- died in a house fire a week ago. Her funeral is tonight. "I didn't really know her." I told him. He didn't answer. He just opened his textbook and ignored me. Phoebe mom, Serena, was a family friend of Wood's. She must be devastated. Then Austin walked into the room. All my thoughts of Wood and Phoebe were replaced with memories with Austin. We had a thing over the summer I loved him, once. He was my first kiss. After we broke up he became a monster, and he made my life miserable. We got over our problems, but we don't interact much. Even though I wasn't sure if I still loved him, our eyes met for a split second, and I still felt something with him.
I shifted my gaze to my left, and found that Shae sat down next to me.
She was quiet most of the time, so no wonder I didn't hear her sitting next to me. "Hey Shae," I acknowledged her. "Hi," She smiled. I just remembered that Shae was good friends with Phoebe, but I didn't want to say anything about it. I didn't get to ask her about her summer because the teacher started talking. I wasn't listening. I was only focused on Austin across the room fiddling with the bracelet I made him. He's still wearing it

Lunch is my least favorite part of the day. I never can find a right table to sit at. I scouted the lunchroom for my friends. They were sitting at a table right next to Austins. I sat down in between Shae and Wood. They both didn't talk much. Across from us were Meghan and Celeste talking our ears off. They were talking about how today is cold but yesterday was hot. That's just how it is in Missouri. I tried to tune them out.*****************
I wasn't walking home alone this time, Shae was with me. "Are you going to the funeral tonight?" She asked. "No. I didn't know her, plus I've got to set up Elli's birthday party for tomorrow," I replied, "Are you going to the funeral?" "No. I can't." I didnt want to ask. "How's you grandpa?" She asked. "I don't really know." We arrived at her house and she left me walking alone once again.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
