My list for today has been completed, as well as all that boring paperwork I had to sort out afterward.
Today I'll be visiting the Undertaker for a short while, there's something I have to ask him. Particularly about the dead, he is a mortician after all.
Stepping into the human realm, knowing that no one can see me, I walk among the bustling crowd to Undertaker's shop.
The place looked a bit run-down, or as anyone in their right mind would say, uninviting; but nonetheless, I turn the knob. I have heard that people never even bothered to pass by this place because of its morbid display, I chuckle at that thought.
I don't fear death. I embrace it.
I opened the door then stepped into the dimly lit shop to see a young girl with short, auburn hair, thinly framed glasses and purple eyes seated behind the coffin counter. She must be his assistant.
She notices me and she immediately gasps, muttering incoherent words to herself as she gets up from her seat.
"G-Good Morning Ma'am!" She exclaims as she begins to grab a form from the desk "Are you interested for a coffin perhaps?"
I smile and wave dismissively "No no, actually I came here to visit the Undertaker. Is he here?" She bashfully puts the form back and slowly shook her head.
I then saw her eyes light up at the fact that I was looking for the Undertaker "Unfortunately no, in fact, he left just a while ago. He told me he'll be back in a few hours or so, so I'll be managing the shop, for the time being, Miss...?" She trailed off, silently asking me for my name.
"Oh," I began before I gave her a sweet smile "I'm (Y/n) (L/n), it's a pleasure to meet you," I say as I outstretched my hand towards her small frame, she took it and gave it a friendly shake.
"I'm Denise Foster! It's a pleasure to meet you as well (Y/n)!" She exclaimed with a friendly grin, how can someone as bright and cheerful at her be part of this line of work?
Oh well, I guess I shouldn't ask myself that...I mean, take a look at me!
"You can wait for Undertaker to come home, unless you're not used to the scent of rotting corpses..." She said, slightly trailing off at the last sentence. You smile at this and sit on one of the coffins,
"It's fine! It doesn't bother me whatsoever!" I said to her, she smiles at this.
"Okay!" She says as she gives me a thumbs up, at that she starts to head to the back to get something.
After a few minutes of silence, she comes back into view with a few books in her hand, probably to entertain herself and I.
She hands a random book over to me, "Here," She says, I take the book and thank her before I started reading.
"Why are you seeking the Undertaker anyways?" She asks me, going into full interrogation mode.
"I just have a few things to ask him, nothing notable." I casually say, glancing at her once before I go back to reading.
"What were you going to ask him then?" She asks further, she likes to ask a lot of questions doesn't she? The curious lot she is, there's not that much people like her in this boring world.
"I won't be specific, but in general...it's mostly about the dead." I say, making sure to not tell her too much information. But that only seems to fuel her interest even more.
"You can ask me those interesting questions of yours y'know, I'm basically a carbon copy of Undertaker." She declares with proud eyes, bringing a hand to her chest.
