It was 2011, and I was 6 years old. I'd been passed around from orphanage to orphanage, but nobody ever adopted me. Ms Ford, who ran the small orphanage I was in now always told me I was young and still had hope. I never believed her, until one day.
I was playing in the park with a boy from my orphanage called Jake. He was 5, he was getting adopted so today was my last full day to spend with him. He was more than a best friend to me, he was like a brother.
"I really will miss you." I said to him, running to try and catch the ball he'd just thrown.
"I'll miss you too" He replied.
The ball landed at the feet of a man who looked about 30. He wore a hat and sunglasses, so his face was mostly covered. He smiled at me, and handed me the ball. I stared at him, he looked familiar.
"Are you here on your own?" He asked me, slightly concerned. I shook my head. Not sure if I should be speaking to a stranger.
"Where are you parents?" He asked
"I'm from Ms Ford's orphanage." I said quietly and quickly, before I ran away
1 month later
Things had been quiet since Jake left. The Summer break had just started. We hadn't had any visitors for a while. But one day, there was a knock on the door. I heard Mr Benn, a helper at the orphanage, answer it. He talked with whoever was at the door for a while, before calling Ms Ford. Who also talked to whoever was at the door for a while. A tall man came in. I recognised him, from something I'd watched, but not just that I felt like I had seen him before. I had. At the park.
"Louise" Ms Ford called, I walked and joined her at the entrance, next to this mystery man. He still was wearing a hat and sunglasses.
"Pack your bags Louise, todays your lucky day."
