It was a chilly, rainy night in Zora Domain, and dark, thundering clouds loomed over me. Rain pelted down onto my skin, and refreshed me as I leaned against the railing of the staircase that led to the throne room.
It had been a few nights since we had gone up to Ruta, but King Rhoam and Princess Zelda had been forced to stay in Zora Domain due to the terribly stormy weather. Zelda had been the most annoying little brat the whole time.
She would cling to Link, glaring at me whenever I came near. She would pretend to slip and fall, making Link help her up. Even though I could tell that Link knew that she was faking, it still made me jealous to see her hanging around him so much.
I looked up at the sky as it flashed with lightning and thundered again, and suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Link," Link leaned against the railing next to me. He wore a sad and somber look on his face, and tears pooled in his glowing blue eyes. "Is something wrong?" I took his hand.
"I..." Link sighed. "I have to go back to Hyrule Castle."
"Oh," I said. "Well, that's okay, I'll come with you." Why is he so sad about it?
"No," Link shook his head. "I have to go back for good. I need to be Zelda's knight again."
My heart dropped into my stomach. "No," I shook my head. "You can't go."
"Believe me, Mipha," Link said. "I don't want to go. But I can't disobey King Rhoam's orders. I can't risk getting into trouble again." He referenced a time when he was nearly banned from seeing any of the Champions ever again, due to a lie from a particular Rito.
"You can't leave me," I felt tears collecting in my eyes. "We're married, Link!"
"I'm sorry," Link looked up at me. "You can still visit. And I'll visit here, as often as possible."
I stood beneath a pale, cloudy sky, a chilly wind weaving through the grass around me. Link, Zelda, and King Rhoam sat on horses in front of me, preparing to leave for the trip to Hyrule Castle.
"We should get there before sunset tomorrow," King Rhoam said, holding a map in his hands. "We'll rest tonight and continue bright and early in the morning."
Link looked down at me from his horse and smiled. I smiled back, holding back tears.
"Well then," Zelda cut in. "We'd better get going." The princess glared at me.
"Goodbye, Lady Mipha," King Rhoam said, snapping the reins of his horse. The horse began trotting away, and Zelda's followed. Once they were ahead, Link turned to me.
"I promise to come visit," He smiled at me. "I love you, Mipha."
"I love you, too." Tears flooded from my eyes as he rode off into the distance, following Zelda and King Rhoam on the road toward Hyrule Castle.
