I stood staring at Zelda, the bouquet of Silent Princesses in her hands. Whispering sounded all around me.
"Princess Zelda?" The guests said quietly. "Does this mean she's going to find love?"
In Hyrule, it had always been a tradition that whichever woman or girl caught the bouquet would find love next. It, of course, was just a silly superstition, but it made my stomach twist into a knot nonetheless.
I knew she had already found her love. It was Link. But did this mean that she would end up marrying him? I tried shaking the thought from my mind. Link married me, not Princess Zelda. He loved me.
Right?
"Alright, everyone," Urbosa broke the whispering silence. "I would like to make a toast, to Lady Mipha."
Everyone turned to face her, but Zelda still looked me straight in the eyes, smiling devilishly. I looked away and turned to Urbosa.
"Princess Mipha," My bridesmaid began. "Is the most wonderful Zora I've met. She is kind, loving, caring, and, when she needs to be, a fierce fighter. I've always treated Link like a little brother, and I know both of the newlyweds very well. They are a perfect couple, and they are truly in love. I am proud to be a Champion with both of them. Now, to Link and Mipha!" The Gerudo raised her glass in the air, and all the others in the room followed.
The crowd went back to talking, and the music from the band resumed. King Rhoam pushed his way through the crowd and up to Link and I.
"Newlyweds," He smiled. "I have some plans. Zelda and I will come to Zora Domain in a week. Mipha, I will give you your Sheikah Slate, and we will travel out to Vah Ruta. I will introduce you to some of the controls. The other Champions will come along, just so they understand what they will be doing. Is that okay with you?"
I nodded. "Yes, of course. I look forward to it." I did not look forward to it. Not only would Zelda be there, but so would Revali, who I hadn't seen since we had stayed in Kakariko Village. He and I weren't exactly on the best terms right now...
"Perfect!" King Rhoam said. "Now, Zelda and I have got to be going. The castle is still undergoing construction, and we need to go supervise some things."
I shuddered as I remembered the horrible eruption of Death Mountain, which had filled the castle with smoke, ash, and fire. That'll take a while to rebuild.
"I'll see you next week," King Rhoam said, and walked back into the crowd.
Dread filled my mind. I didn't want to see Revali or Zelda ever again, but it wasn't as if I could just skip the meeting. Also, I was excited about piloting Ruta, and I didn't want to waste any time.
I felt Link squeeze my hand. "It's okay, I'll be there." He said quietly.
I nodded, relaxing a bit. Nothing that bad could happen as long as Link was with me.
I'll be fine.
〜
I sat on my bed the night after the wedding, staring out into the window of Link and my bedroom. Bright, silvery moonlight spilled onto the floor, and the stars glimmered in the dark blue sky.
Link lay down next to me, reading a book. He held my hand in his, and we sat in silence.
I was overjoyed. I'm married. I thought joyously. I'm married to Link! I smiled as I stared out the window. The thought of living with him forever made me beam with joy.
I had nearly forgotten my worries about the meeting at Vah Ruta. I had managed to assure myself that I would be fine with Link by my side, and Urbosa had assured me that if Revali tried anything, she would rip his feathers out.
I heard Link close his book and sit up. "Do you want to open the gifts?" He asked.
"Sure, why not?" We had received a plethora of gifts from our guests, and now would be as good a time as any to open them.
Link got up out of the bed and walked to the closet, where he lifted out a large wooden crate full of wrapped gifts. He put it on the ground and I came over to sit next to him on the floor.
Link pulled the first gift out, and read the tag.
"To the Newlyweds, From Zebo." Zebo was one of King Dorephan's guards, and he was good friends with Sidon. Link tore open the wrapping paper and pulled out a large, tan cloth. He picked it up and laid it out on the floor. It was a detailed map of all of Hyrule.
"How nice of him," I said as Link folded up the map and set it aside. I reached into the crate and pulled out another gift, this one with a card attached to it.
I pulled off the card and read it. "To Lady Mipha. So you can come visit sometime. From, Revali."
I closed the card, setting it aside. Sympathy filled my mind. Revali and I weren't on the best terms at the moment, but he had still cared enough to send a gift. I hadn't seen him at the wedding, though. He must have left quickly.
I opened the gift and pulled out a blue warm doublet.
"Nice of him." Link said, reaching for the next gift. Link didn't really like Revali, either. Neither did Urbosa. Or Daruk. He wasn't a very likable Rito.
The next gift contained matching slippers for us, and the next was a drawing of the Temple of Time. Eventually, we reached an ugly brown paper bag. I opened it, and there was a folded note in it.
On the outside, it said, "From Princess Zelda".
I unfolded it, and read it silently.
It said. "Dear Mipha, King Rhoam and I have made the decision that you are no longer welcome in Hyrule Castle. We consider your manipulation of the Royal Guard a very serious crime that cannot be left unchecked.
-The Royal Family of Hyrule"
A pit of dread hollowed in my stomach. Was it really true? Were they really kicking me out for good?
"It just says, 'Congratulations, newlyweds'." I lied. I didn't want Link to know. It would only cause drama.
"Hm." Link said as I quickly threw the note in the trash.
We finished opening the rest of the gifts. I held back my tears the whole time, desperately trying to look happy.
"Are you okay?" Link finally noticed.
"I'm fine," I nodded. "Just a bit tired."
"We should go to bed," Link took my hand and led me to our bed. We laid down, and once I was sure Link was asleep, I silently let my tears fall.
