EIGHT: Cousin of Mine

[ELISA]

Elisa walked out of Cogsworth's classroom, not sure if she had passed his test. She probably hadn't. She didn't bother to study. She walked past Maddie who hurriedly walked towards the dorm hallway, Evie, Gigi and Mal hot on her tail. Elisa paid it no mind and went to where Annalina stood waiting at her locker.

"Hey Elisa!" Annalina called, clasping her hands together. "Come on."

Annalina took Elisa's gloved hand and led her to Ally's dorm.

"So what should we do?" Annalina asked.

"Knock the door?" Elisa suggested, knocking it. "Ally?"

They received no answer, standing and waiting for movement. They heard her sit on the other side of the door, and they did the same pressing their backs to it.

"Do you want to build a snowman? Come on, let's go and play!" Annalina asked as Elisa elbowed her in the side.

"Stop singing." Elisa said. "We don't have to sing."

"I do quite enjoy your singing." Ally said from the inside, causing Annalina to smile smugly at Elisa.

"That cousin of mine." Elisa grumbled as Annalina giggled.

"I never see you anymore. Come out the door. It's like you've gone away." Annalina giggled as she sang, nudging for Elisa to continue.

"We used to be best buddies
And now we're not. I wish you would tell me why!" Elisa continued, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Do you want to build a snowman? It doesn't have to be a snowman." Annalina said as the door swung open and she and Elisa tumbled backward.

"Oh I'm sorry." Ally said. "I didn't realize that you were leaning on it."

"It's fine." Annalina said, jumping up to her feet and tugging Elisa up after her. "We're just glad you opened the door."

"I did." Ally said, shutting it behind them. She sat on a chair, inviting Annalina and Elisa to take a seat. They sat on either side of her, giving her a hug.

"What seems to be the problem Ally darling?" Elisa asked gently as Ally let out a sigh.

"I don't know." Ally said. "It's just Maddie's been so distant and I don't know what I did wrong. She keeps skipping our tea time with Weston and I don't like it just being me and him."

"I see." Annalina nodded. "What else seems to be the problem? That can't be all of it."

"Well I've been having dreams." Ally said. "Which is completely normal but it's weird since Maddie's stopped you know? And we used to share them over tea and I felt bad if I shared mine with her when she did show up."

"What did you dream about?" Elisa asked. "We're not experts but we can try to listen."

"Well there's a girl you see." Ally said. "She's not the girl Maddie dreamed about but she has red hair too. And she doesn't really like you two."

"What's her name?" Annalina asked as Ally shrugged.

"I never caught it." Ally said. "But I saw her with the girl we talked to on Coronation day, Evie's sister Sam I think it was. She talks about how your dad hates your moms and wants revenge on them and whatnot and how he wants her to help him but she hates him. It's rather confusing."

"Red head. Hates my mom." Annalina muttered, snapping her fingers. "Hans! Of the Southern Isles! He got sent to the Isle with the Duke and hasn't gotten over it since. He thought he could be ruler of our kingdom. It didn't work out."

"Well it seems he has a daughter and she doesn't like us just as much." Elisa said. "I don't think we have to be worried."

"Alright." Ally said as the door opened and an out of breath Pandora, Talia and Crystal entered.

"We have an emergency!" Pandora said, having collected herself first. "Maddie! Boy problems."

They didn't wait for an answer and sprinted back out the door. Elisa sighed, getting up and following after them, Annalina and Anna in two. The door to Maddie's room burst open as Talia, Pandora, Crystal, Elisa, Annalina and Ally filed in.

"Oh Maddie." Ally said, wrapping her arms around her cousin and stroking her hair. "You'll be okay. I swear you'll be okay."

"Yeah." Annalina said. "Carlos is an idiot if he doesn't want to keep you."

"You are amazing Maddie." Elisa said. "You don't need him."

"You'll get better." Crystal said. "You will."

"We are all here for you Mads." Pandora said. "You don't need him."

"It will all get better from here." Talia said.

"B-but I feel so broken." Maddie said. "I-I'm losing my mind. I mean I already knew I was. B-but I-it's so weird. I haven't had a d-dream in six months and that seems so suspicious. And t-then t-this happened. I don't know. It's a sign."

"Maddie not having dreams is completely normal." Evie said. "It happens sometimes."

"No." Ally said. "In Wonderland you always have dreams. Some might be completely absurd. But you still do. We always say it's a sign of change when you don't have dreams."

"Maybe this is different." Mal said. "Maybe you not having dreams is a good thing. You can stay away from her."

"Who?" Talia asked. "Am I missing something here?"

"No." Crystal said. "I don't know who she's talking about either."

Gigi, Mal, Evie and Pandora shared a look.

"It's nobody." Evie said. "It's not important. Right now what's important is that you know we are here for you Maddie."

"Sorry for ruining this moment." Annalina said. "But Fairy Godmother wanted us in her office hours ago."

"Right." Pandora said as she, Crystal, Elisa, Annalina, and Talia got up.

"We are here for you Maddie."
Talia said. "I mean not at this particular moment. But just think that we are here in spirit."

"O-Okay." Maddie said as the girls disappeared out the door, Ally smiled at her cousin following after her friends.

"What was it FG wanted again?" Elisa asked as they hurried to her office.

"I'm not quite sure." Annalina said. "Guess we have to wait to find out."
