the sun was coming down when enid finally showed up at their secret hideaway. ron have been waiting for her for half an hour now.

"hey, i'm sorry i couldn't make it in time. i got stuck with my bike in traffic. there was an accident on the avenue." she explained taking place by his side on the mattress.

"no problem" he comforts her. "hey, i brought you something." he takes a small packing off his pocket, showing it to his friend. enid gasps.

"chocolate! my favorite!" she takes it and hugs him. "how did you find it? they don't even sell it anymore. i used to eat it when i was a kid." she saves it for later.

"i know, you told me. i used to buy it for sam every time i picked him up from school. i thought you'd like it."

"i loved it. thank you. you're so nice to me..." she blushes. "dylan would never buy me chocolate. like, never."

"yeah, about that..." ron scratches his own cheek, turning to a serious tone. "i wanted to talk to you. about dylan."

enid seems worried.

"what is it? did he do anything to you?"

"actually, yes, he did." he starts. "he followed me in the street and started a fight. i tried not to hit back, but he had a knife!"

"oh, god! did he hurt you?"

"no, not me, but he hurt carl..." at that moment, enid's face turn to pure disappointment, then anger. "it would be good if you would tell him to stay away from us."

the girl grabs her bag on the floor and gets up, ready to leave.

"hey, where are you going?" he asks confused.

"home." enid turns him down. ron gets up to follow her.

"why? are you angry?" she doesn't even answer. "are you going to talk to him?"

she turns at him.

"sure" she replies, for one moment ron believes she's serious, until she continues: "i'll tell him to hit your head harder next time."

"what? enid! come back!" he runs after her and grabs her arm.

"leave me the hell alone! you're sick! you need help!" she shouts. ron can't understand a word she's saying. he tries to calm her down.

"why are you saying this? dylan was the one to hurt me and carl!"

"no... he didn't hurt carl. he hurt you."

"he had a knife pointed to carl, i saw it!"

"you didn't saw anything because it never happened! ron, wake up, please wake up!" she grabs him by the shoulder and shakes him. "snap out of it!"

"enid, i don't get what you're saying. it happened, you can ask carl."

"no..." she lets go of him. "i can't."

"why?"

a pause. enid can't take it anymore. she can't stand to watch her friend suffer and not be able to do anything about it. so she takes a tough decision.

"because he doesn't exist." she finally says.

ron keeps staring at her, more confused than ever.

"i don't get it."

"he is dead, ron!" she shouts once and for all. "you've been talking to a ghost you made up in your head. you need to take your medicines, you need to heal! i can't stay here and watch you go mad." she speaks with tears in her eyes.

ron doesn't say a word.

"you don't know what you're talking about. you're out of your mind."

"no, you're the one losing your mind! carl is dead, ron. you were there when he crashed that car. he tried to kill you too."

"you're lying."

"i'm not! you can ask maggie, your mom, his family, anyone!"

"fuck you, enid!" he screams before leaving the building, leaving enid to cry by herself.
