Chapter 8

Leni came back home and was surprised to see her father waiting for her.

"Good evening Pa," She kissed his cheek.

"Leni," He kissed back.

"Inantay ka talaga ng papa mo, anak." Her mother told her as she sat beside her father. Leni smiled at her.

They started eating quietly. 

"How's school, anak?"

"Ok naman Pa, I think I'm closer in getting the scholarship that I really wanted. Further, I met a friend who's a recipient of the scholarship and he's helping me!"

"Si Jorge ba yan?"

"You know him?"

"I know his father. He's a fine man, si Jorge. Good and nagkakilala kayo."

"Yes, and he's very helpful, Pa. I'm glad."

His father noticed Leni's flustered cheeks and happy aura. 

"Good friends ba kayo ni Jorge?"

"Yes po,"

"I really like him for you,"

She almost choked. Her mother looked at her.

"Pa," She started.

"Why? He's a fine gentleman from a fine family. Sabi mo he's nice and helpful. Single siya and single ka naman,"

"I'm dating someone different," she told him as she eat a spoonful of lasagna.

"You haven't told me that,"

"I can tell you something about him right now. Ngayon lang kita ulit nakita, Pa."

"Who's he?"

"Rody,"

"Surname?"

"Duterte,"

"I don't know him,"

"Do you have to? Kaya nga I can tell you something about him now - he's nice and sweet and -" She started but her father looked down at his soup.

"I hope he's not distracting you," was the only thing he said.

"Nope, he isn't."

Her mother and father looked at her. She looked at them back - she's sure she's not being rude but their stares are different.

"What? I'm just answering your questions, Pa. You know what," She held his hand. "You should meet him, he's really nice,"

His father withdrew his hands from her grip. "Alam mo namang busy ako anak,"

"Let me know when you can meet him. Ma, you should meet him! Can I bring him sometime here?" She faced her mother, a warm feeling suddenly spread across her body - she's a bit irritated. 

"Of course, how about after school? Or weekend lunch? Ano bang gusto niyang putahe so that I can cook for him?" Her mother is more enthusiastic.

Her father stood up. She did not dare look at him but he looked at her. "Leni, just make sure your studies go well,"

"Yes Pa," She looked at her soup, sighing a little. 

And then he left.
