SYD'S POV
"so...whats my new family like?" i asked the man driving. he said his name was zack.
"oh you're not gonna have a new family. just my boss. he's awesome though - trust me"
"and i am trusting you" i said. he chuckled.
"i noticed your accent. where you from?"
"london. abandoned in LA as a baby" i said.
"damn im so sorry"
"its calm. it was 14 years ago and i trust that this guy will be awesome" i shrugged.

we made it to a really pretty big house. he helped me carry my stuff inside. "he's out right now but he'll be back in about an hour. i'll see you soon" zack left and i was all alone. i saw a note with my name on it.

Hey Syd!

I had to deal with some work stuff and I also wanted to get you a little something. You can look around, unpack, meet the dogs...

I'll be back by 6. Can't wait to meet you

this was exciting! i looked around a bit and the house was awesome. i found my room eventually as it had my name on it and lugged my stuff upstairs. i then met the dogs! they were really obnoxious but cute!

i sat on the floor in the living room and facetimed my friend Gemma.
"hey! are you at your new house?" she asked.
"yes i am" i replied.
"how is it?"
"fancy as fuck. that's one thing"
"you're british - isn't fancy your thing?"
"that's some dead stereotype"
"you're a dead stereotype"
"fuck off, no one wants your input"
we both sniggered. "hey look after yourself"
"no promises" i struck a peace sign.
"im serious" she said. "mmmkay" i mumbled.
"so when's your family gonna be back?"
"nah i just got some bloke. he better be shawn mendes"

then i heard the front door open.
"that doesn't sound like shawn mendes"
"shuttup man" i scoffed.
"i adopted a british girl? awesome!" a tall man walked into the room. wait a second.
"yeah it's brendon urie not shawn mendes"
"WHAT-" she screamed. "bye gemma!" i ended the call and brendon laughed.
"she is a hardcore stan" i got off the floor.
"yeah i heard" he chuckled.
"so...you're my new parent?" i asked.
"yeah and you are syd - can i call you that?"
"yeah it's aight"

this was awkward. "well im gonna get started on dinner. i got dessert too as a little welcome gift" he said.
"man americans celebrate everything - i like it"
"well you're not wrong there" he laughed. "but you can unpack while i make us something to eat. i really wanna get to know you"
"awesome. see you in twenty minuets. thirty if i procrastinate"

after unpacking and making my room look nice, i went back downstairs. brendon was singing to himself as he poured himself a drink. "hey you're just in time!" he smiled. he gestured for me to sit opposite him.

"so where you from?" he asked as we started eating. "london" i replied. "man i love london"
"i haven't been there since i was born"
"really? i've been a few times. its awesome"
"you're not even from there and you've been more than me? thats deep you know"
"yeah im sorry but im struggling to understand your slang" he chuckled.
"its calm, i'll teach you"

we talked some more then i helped clear up. we were laughing about something when i suddenly asked him "why did you adopt me?"
"now that is a question i was trying to avoid"
"shit - sorry" i replied.
"its okay. but the truth is i get pretty lonely. i live alone with my two dogs. and im pretty bad at love - halsey reference- and it gets a bit depressing y'know?"
"nah i get you. i have no friends. minus gemma - shes awesome. but hey we have each other now"
"yeah. we do" he smiled. "so...where does gemma live?"
"ohio. she got adopted six months ago"
"aw cool. maybe when i play shows there you guys can hang out"
"that'd be sick"

"hey can i just thank you?" i said.
"for what?" he asked.
"for helping gemma. she went through a lot and your music helps her so much. if it wasn't for you she probably wouldn't be alive"
"damn. im glad i could help" he replied.
we exchanged awkward smiles.
