Jungkook felt like death.
His head was throbbing so hard that even blinking made him want to groan with pain. He felt shivery, yet his skin was burning hot, and waves of dizziness washed over him with every movement he made. He pulled the covers of his bed up over his head, wanting to hide away in the dark lair for the whole day.
"Kookie!"
Jungkook bit back a cry as he felt the mattress begin to bounce. It was, of course, Taehyung. On any other day, Jungkook would've been very happy to see Tae, but he felt so unspeakably awful that he didn't feel up for conversation with anyone, not even his best friend and, as of late, secret crush. The maknae squirrelled further under the blanket until he was a little lump in the sheets.
Tae chuckled fondly, completely misunderstanding the action. He thought Jungkook was simply being lazy- he was always very difficult to wake up in the mornings. Tae gently peeled back the blanket.
"Come on, Jungkookie, it's 9 am! You've been sleeping in for ages and we have a concert today!" The older urged, shaking Jungkook's shoulder. However, as soon as he came into contact with Jungkook's skin and felt the heat radiating off it, he snatched his hand away, eyes wide.
It was then that he registered the sight of Jungkook's pale, sweaty face and two flushed cheeks. He furrowed his eyebrows, laying his cool hand on Kookie's burning forehead, causing the maknae to close his eyes at the feeling. "Oh, no, are you sick?" Tae asked, pouting. Jungkook shook his head frantically.
"N-no hyung," he insisted, teeth chattering. "'M just a bit tired is all."
Taehyung frowned, not at all convinced. He opened his mouth to say something else, but then he closed it with a sigh. Maybe he was overreacting. Jungkook didn't seem very well, but Tae decided that he wasn't the best judge of that. If Jungkook said he was fine, then he was surely fine, right?
Even so, after watching Jungkook stagger out of his bed and sluggishly get his clothes out of his draw, Taehyung vowed to keep a close eye on his little Kookie today.

"Okay, we'll take a quick break," came the dance choreographer's voice as "Fire" stopped blaring from the speakers. Jungkook flopped down with a gasp, his body covered in a sheen of sweat. He hadn't felt begun to feel better as the day went on, as he'd initially hoped. Instead, his condition had decreased to the point where his head throbbed so hard that the room was spinning around him, and he was as feverish as anything. He desperately drank water in attempt to alleviate some of his discomfort, but it didn't make him feel any better. He felt dizzier and weaker than ever.
The other members were all confused at how Jungkook kept missing his queue or messing up even the simplest dance moves, especially as he was usually so capable. They were all concerned- especially Taehyung.
Jin knelt down before Kookie and gently brushed his hair off his sweaty, boiling hot forehead. "Are you alright, Kook?" He asked sympathetically, possessing a motherly tone. "You don't seem very well today."
Jungkook nodded.
"I'm fine, hyung. Just a bit tired," the maknae said quietly. Tae frowned. They were the exact words Jungkook had used earlier- and now they were even more unconvincing. Yoongi shook his head gently, also disbelieving, but chose not to accuse the youngest of lying.
"Let's just hope you'll be okay in time for the concert," he said in a soft tone.
"Yeah, take it easy, Kook," Namjoon added. Jungkook didn't reply. He felt sick with nerves at the thought of preforming a concert in this state, the thought of letting down army if he couldn't give them his best. The notion made him all the more determined to push himself even harder.
Taehyung was also quiet. He felt sick with nerves too- sick with nerves at the thought of Jungkook going and performing whilst feeling so sick. Taehyung's head buzzed with the possibilities of what could happen to his Kookie if he pushed himself too far. It made him want to take Jungkook in his arms and force the maknae to rest. But he didn't want him to feel as though he has trying to control him, restrict him from doing what he wanted. That wasn't Tae's intention at all. Jungkook was free to make his own choices: Taehyung just prayed that they would be the right ones.

Sweat rolled down Jungkook's forehead, his breath came out in strangled gasps, and every inch of his body ached, especially his head, which felt like it had been bashed by a sledgehammer. The thump of the music seemed to pulsate in his brain and made him want to scream with pain. The other members were dancing with ease- yet Jungkook could feel their eyes on him. He was struggling, he knew he was. If he could just hold on until the end of the song, maybe he could just quietly make his way off stage.
However, when Jungkook turned and was met with Taehyung's beautiful brown eyes wide with worry, he felt guilt tug at his heart. He was letting his members down, letting Taehyung down, he was ruining the whole dance, he was tired, he was weak, he was dizzy, really really really dizzy...
A loud thud echoed across the concert hall.
The members all turned, jaws dropping open when they were met with the sight of Jungkook collapsed on the stage, skin greyish and dripping with sweat, eyes closed, still. Screams of terror erupted from the loving armies in the audience, half drowned out by the still blaring music.
Taehyung didn't wait another second before he was running to Jungkook, his initial shock replaced by desperate worry. He took the maknae in his arms, shocked at how hot and damp he was, before lifting him gently. Jin and Hobi rushed forwards to assist him, the other members also crowding round, the music finally being switched off and leaving the cries and shouts of the fans to freely fill the concert hall.
Everything felt dark for Jungkook- he was dimly aware of strong arms wrapping around him and then he realised he was being carried somewhere, though he couldn't summon the strength to open his eyes to discover where he was being taken. He felt himself be laid down on something soft, probably a couch.
He finally dragged his eyes open. Although his vision was blurred, he would've recognised that face in a crowd of 1,000,000 people.
"T-Taehyung?" He choked out. The older gently hushed him, brushing back his hair to lay an ice pack on his forehead and giving it a quick kiss, his cool lips burning against Jungkook's feverish skin.
"Shhh, baby, shh. Go to sleep," came the gentle voice. "I'll look after you."
The significance of the nickname barely registered in Kookie's brain as he drooping closed his eyes again and allowed himself to fully loose consciousness. He trusted Taehyung with his whole life.
It wasn't until the maknae woke up a few hours later, his fever and headache still there yet not quite as intense as before, and sat up that he felt a soft weight on his knees. He looked down to find that Taehyung was kneeling there, resting his head on Jungkook's legs as he slept soundly with cute little snores. Tae had stayed with him the whole time.
Then, it finally hit Jungkook, the thought making him freeze and a blush heat up his already burning cheeks.
Did Taehyung call him baby?
Taehyung totally called him baby.
