Blue filled the sky as the birds awoke from their slumber. Emer looked out her window, only to see gray, no matter how hard she tried, the world wouldn't change color, it was just, dull. She had no faith in people anymore, just herself. Her room was dark , and once again, her door was locked. She refused to let any light cross her path. The pain in her heart was nothing but a sharp knife in her back. Emer's vision blurred as her eyes filled up with salted water. One drop at a time, they fell. "Why can't they keep their promise? Don't they love me, or was that a lie to? I will never leave, never!"
"Emer dear it's time for your lesson today."
"You both lied to me!"
"What are you talking about, no one lied to you dear."
"I heard your conversation last night, don't lie to me!"
The night before...
"Where were you today? Emer was waiting for you, she was really excited, but you never showed."
"W-What do you *Hiccup* mean."
"Are you ratted?"
"No...I just had a couple of drinks that's all. The boys wanted to have some fun, I can't let them down, I have a reputation to keep."
"What reputation, your teaching a slave girl how to be a normal person so she can live like everyone else. Drinking won't solve your inevitable doom, your still going agenst the world with what you are doing. Once people find out they'll hang you and the girl, weather the law forbids or not." She paused with anger. "Go to bed you rotten old toad, I'll wake you in the morning, I hope Emer still likes you."
Currently...
"Dear, he was just..."
"Just what! He lied to me, just like everyone else! No one can be trusted!"
"Well what are you going to do about it, Emer! Are you going to sit in your room, withering away till your nothing but dust! Grow up, Emer! If you were never bought at that auction you wouldn't even be alive right now, so think about that! You know what, no, I don't give a hootenanny how you feel, you can ether die or live, that's your choice, I ain't gonna stop you."
Emer had no intentions to leave, she rather die then to trust people who can't even keep their own words. All she wanted to do is sulk in her salty sea.
Angel turns towards Valens, who is still drunk. "Look what you did, now the little pest is throwing a tantrum."
"Don't call her a pest."
"What should I call her then, a gnat?"
"She's just being a child, give it a rest."
"Don't let her be a child Valens! We are teaching her how to be a normal child, normal children get their butts beaten with a stick for acting like this!"
"Just because someone else does it doesn't mean its right. Isn't that what we are teaching her?" Valens became sassy.
"You know what Valens, you can deal with her alone. I'm going to go home and take care of my own pregnant belly." Angel walked, or should I say, waddled down the stairs.
"Hey!" Angel stopped half way towards the door. "My name is Burnhard to you Missy." He crossed his arms and giggled, but Angel wasn't joking, he needed to teach the girl a lesson or two himself.
The next morning it was the same, Emer was refusing to come out and Valens had no idea how to convince her to come out. Maybe he should take the lock off the door, he thought. Nothing in his mind was right, he didn't want her to be raised like those other kids, she'd become rotten. And it wasn't that he wanted her to be normal, he wants her to be taught how to hide her secret and make friends, he wants her to be her, but better. He had to come up with an idea, one that would teach her and bring them closer together, but what?
Putting on his brown steal towed boots, Valens opened the door to the bright and wonderful, outside world. Before he took any step out onto his dark wooden steps, he paused. "Hm. Emer I'm going into town for a bit, and Angel isn't here today, so please be a good girl and don't be stupid! Oh, but if you want to come with me that will be okay, I wouldn't mind!" He herd the click of her door unlocking. Then a screech from her peaking her small eyeballs out of her door into the hallway. "Maybe while I'm out I can go shopping for some new plants to put in my garden!"
"This doesn't mean anything, I just don't want to be home alone you got me!" Though she is more mature for her age, Valens knows shes still a timid little girl. To think Angel ever doubted him. He may seem week, but he has a strong mind and understands all age groups. "So are we going or not?"
"Yes, but if you keep acting like a brat I will leave you here, you got me? Its getting to the time in your life where you need to grow up. So, if you ever lock yourself in your room again, just know one thing, if I didn't buy you, you would ether be slaving away at some persons house, or you would be dead. I never wan't to use that excuse again, so you better be a good girl okay?" Never once did Emer expect him of all people, to act so cold. "Now that that is over with, lets go. I'm thinking we should buy you new clothes. Maybe today can be just for you, I'll make up our broken promise, how about that?"
