The light broke through the window of Jaren's new home, his room which used to be the first room was decorated with few paintings and some brightly colored curtians that made the room a bright blue. A smile spread across his face and he opened his window letting the morning air sink in. It reminded him of weekend mornings in spring when the air was just right. There was a slight knock on the door when Evan came in with a few clothes in hand. "Found some old clothes for you to wear."
Jaren took them looking through them, the neatly placing them in the dresser that was now his. He turned to Evan and hugged him again just filled with immense joy. "Thanks Ev"
Evan left Jaren to get ready while mom and dad got ready for breakfast. Jaren hopped in the shower quickly, feeling the water hit his skin. It felt so real, he thought he could only be dreaming. Nothing this good happens but here he was with his best friend. A new life ahead of them, who could have ever guessed. Jaren sighed getting out of the shower, changing into a black shirt and black jeans. He brushed his hair deciding he would need a haircut soon or it would become more of a mop.
"Breakfast is ready!" Called Evan's dad from the kitchen, the smell of bacon filled the house making Jaren smile. He walked downstairs sitting at the table next to Evan.
There was plenty of food laid across the table, pancakes, bacon, eggs and toast. It was what Evan and him always woke up to on a Saturday morning. Jaren wiped away the stran tear filling his plate. "It's nice to have another smiling face around" Evan's mom joked placing a cup of water down for him.
"It's nice to see you guys again" He sipped the water before stuffing his face with food. He sighed happy for the first time in what felt forever.
"Might wanna slow down there Jer," Evan laughed eating his food. He enjoyed the peace and company of his best friend again.
"Shut up dumby," Jaren giggled saying, he cleaned off his plate and left it in the sick. Sitting back down next to Evan at the table, Evan just chuckled finishing his food and doing the same with his plate. They sat and chatted for a bit catching up on lost time. Jaren felt whole again, a place he knew he could be himself.
"There's this new game I wanna show you," Evan said excitedly taking Jaren's hand and showing him upstairs. Evan opened the door to his room and sat down starting up his computer. Boxes littered the room half empty with clothes, posters, anything in the room that would fit in them. Jaren sat down in a folded chair next to Evan looking as he pulled up this game. He pulled up the game and handed Jaren a controller. Two stick people appeared on the screen.
"This is Stick Fight, there's different maps you fight on to see who wins. Basically you fight" Evan showed Jaren the controls so he could play it right. Evan was mostly button smashing as Jaren hopped around.
Jaren looked to Evan pushing him while laughing, "stop button mashing dude!"
"Force of habit" Evan said shrugging as he tried to mess Jaren up. Jaren laughed putting his feet in Evans face.
"Take that bitch!" Evan fell out of his seat in pure disgust while Jaren won putting down his control to help Evan up. "Come on you pussy"
Evan took Jaren's hand grumbling a bit as he sat back up. He paused the game looking to Jaren then his phone which hang rung. "Let me take this,"
As Jaren waited he looked around Evan's room, his guitars hung on one of the walls across from his bed as slowly peeling posters came off the walls. Jaren noticed a small collection of figures on Evan's dresser, he walked over there picking up a particular one. On the bottom of the foot it had 'From J, to Ev" Jaren smiled still surprised that he had the toy. Evan got off the phone then walked over to Jaren looking at the toy then him.
"You kept it?" Jaren asked looking to Evan a small smile on his face.
"Of course I did, it was the only thing I had left of you." Evan hugged Jaren laughing a bit as he pulled away. "Anyway, Jon asked if you wanted to grab lunch with us"
Jaren thought for a minute then nodded, "I'd love to, gotta meet the man's who's dating my best friend." Jaren cracked a smile chuckling a bit as Evan just shook his head.
