"Tom, your such an idiot." I laughed, leaning against the balcony.
"Look who's talking." He shot back, stumbling a bit on the ledge.
"Be careful Stell, I wouldn't want you to. . . fall." Tom caught my arm, holding me still. My smile dropped from my face as I stared into his eyes because there was a 50/50 chance of what was going to happen next and I wasn't going to be the one to jinx it.
Tom's voice softened on the word fall as he titled his head closer to mine. And he kissed me, straight out, no comment available.
Because I don't know how to feel, well I don't feel anything and it's confusing.
"Stell!" Matt called out, too close for us to process. "What. . . Are you guys dating?" And there we go.
Matt's expression changed unrecognizable as he turned his back, walking away from his broken words.
"You didn't feel anything, right?!" Tom asked almost guiltily, chuckling softly to himself.
"No, did you?" Obvious question award of brilliance goes to me.
Where's my medal?
"No thank God!" He breathed. "I'm sorry Stella, I'm so sorry I didn't know what I was doing. Now go explain to Matt!" Tom rushed out everything, repeating the word sorry every few seconds.
And there, it happened.
"MATT, get your butt back here!" I yelled running through the house as Daisy shot me a confused look from the couch.
The front door slammed, letting in a rush of cold air and splatters of rain. Perfect weather, am I right?
"Hold on, MATT!" I yelled after him. He was walking down the street, hands shoved in his pockets until he heard the door slam and my voice.
"What?"
"Matt, why would you care anyway?"
Nice move there Stella, really nice way to start a conversation.
"I don't." Matt started to get defensive. "It's just that if no one tells me anything, how am I gonna know if the girl I like-"
"What?" My voice cracked.
I'm crazy, I didn't hear that.
"Nothing."
"Matt you have Daisy, you love her."
"What would I know?"
"Maybe we just shouldn't be friends anymore, I forgot to tell you but I'm moving away in a month to America. I won't be coming back now."
And that kids it what I found out in a letter today, the main reason I went out with Tom, the main reason there's this mess.
And guess what. . . I'm so screwed.
"You can't- you can't run away from all your problems." Matt sounded broken as I turned away, heading in the opposite direction.
Watch me.
