You follow in their footsteps

Along a path rarely trodden

The will-o-wisps lighting the way

Barely noticeable in the darkness

You meet me on the way to my heart

Hoping I will lead you there

My eyes see right through you

My smile disarms you

My beauty a dangerous weapon

That makes me a killer

So I try to protect you

From falling for me

As I walk away from you

You call my name softly

And as I turn around to face you

You throw your heart

It lands at my feet as I watch

I stoop down to pick it up

And hold it tightly as I bring it back

Trying to return it whole

Just as I realize that it's fragile

It cracks and it crushes

Falling apart in my hands

Before we can save it

I try to avoid your eyes

As I place the tiny, broken pieces

Into your open hands as you cringe

The broken pieces cutting your skin

I whisper an honest, tearful apology

That won't mend your heart

I walk away leaving you behind

Bleeding, Broken

Crushed
