What is a Poem?

What is poem?
A poem is this
Emotions etched onto paper
So that they remain eternal
Unending
So that l may not forget
That one day l may look and remember
That l once felt this
That l once knew what it was like to love
To hate, to be happy, to be sad

A poem is a poet's passion
That he refuses to let go
He holds and grasps it until it becomes his own
Until he can trace its origins inside his heart
And declare proudly that it is his
That he channeled it into something
With form, coherence, colour, beauty

A poem is your love, your care
That you unselfishly gave away
And it touched someone's heart
And he could not tell it to you
So he wrote it down
And weaved it into words

A poem is you
And your beauty
A poem is born inside you
Only you
