What if there was a light that didn't lure us into darkness
What if your love never transformed into hate
What if your care never ceased to become the bread
That fed me to life and not into death
Why must everything die that once lived
Why must the tree lose its leaves
And why must the day wither away
Like the smoke that fades into thin air
You used to smile,l remember
And it was a beautiful thing
Like the sunrise when the sun colours the clouds
golden and yellow and every beautiful colour
But what is there is no longer a canvas splashed
with colour but rather a wall of black and white
That is what has become of your smile
Why must everything die?
Perhaps these words shall die in my heart
And in yours too
Like a tree that once stood tall and true
But now is left a stump
So that no one recalls its great height
Or how it used to reach for the sky
Touch it, even
Why, why....
Endless questions uttered into the night
With nothing for answer except the stars
And the other eye of the sky that just stares
Sometimes full, sometimes not there
Must he die too, with the stars?
Or is his curse to watch as the day withers away
As everything dies with each other
Or alone, cold and deserted
Why, tell me.
Why...
