It wasn’t the gloominess of the dark, bodiless park that I was afraid of but merely the fact that I would have to return to him. I couldn’t stand this place anymore it freaked me out, here more than back there, and I could have of sworn I heard footsteps.
After traveling miles the wind starts to pick up and my light brown hair started to dance with the cool breeze. My closing eyes spotted a run-down tree house a few blocks away. After carefully climbing the loose ladder leading to the abandoned shelter I set up for the night.
I’ll leave in the morning after a good night sleep I thought. But sleep never came. I lay awake the whole night thinking;
What if he finds me?
What if I have to go back?
What if I stay love-less my whole life?
What if I never find a home?
Questions were sprouting in my head. Soon enough day breaks and I haven’t slept a wink.
Small, slow steps climbed up the ladder. I froze in fear. My body paralysed itself so I couldn’t move. I was facing that back wall so I didn’t see who had come up but then realised it was a little girl after hearing;
“Cas why is there someone in my tree-house?”
“I don’t know, why don’t you come down and I’ll check it out, ok?” A deep yet soft voice whispered but audible enough for me to hear.
“Ok”
Heavier footsteps climbed the wooden, handmade ladder. I was the slightest bit relieved that it wasn’t that dam man (another Percy Jackson reference) but still shocked that someone found me. I decided to play the safe way and act like I was asleep. Sadly he didn’t buy it.
“Get up, I don’t have much patience today and by the way I know you are awake”
Shoot he caught me so I just sat up and looked at him. We look somewhat similar but he has blue eyes and I have green and his skin is a little lighter than mine. Also the fact he looks a lot older than I do.
I quickly stood up and at lightning speed packed the very limited belongings I owned and as I was about to descend from the warmth of shelter I bravely whispered
“It doesn’t hurt to be ni….” But before I could finish my sentence he had his hands around my throat backed against a wall but unfortunately no one could see, come to my rescue.
“Don’t tell me what to do you inconsiderate, selfish, careless, little brat” every word overflowed with venom. I didn’t realise that he was holding so tight until he let go.
As I was leaving I noticed the little girl from earlier standing there with her mouth hung open. I swerved passed her, bag on my shoulder, I quickly started to climb down the rungs on the ladder completely forgetting that the ladder could cause me my life. My foot slipped but someone had caught my hand just in time. I glanced up only to see devil child who still had an I’m-going-to-kill-you look.
I continued climbing down once I had grabbed onto the rung once again.
“Wait” he called just before I reached the bottom. I stood there with my arms folded while he came down as slow as a tortoise. But I don’t blame him, that thing is a death trap sent from Hera. (Also a Percy Jackson reference).
“And be nice!” the small child scream from the window.
We stood there for what seem like ages just looking at each other and giving the other a death glares. I had enough of him and as I was turning to walk off he grabbed my arm said;
“And where do you think you are going?”
“To find a new place to sleep tonight because it is extremely clear that I am not welcome here and I will not over stay my ‘welcome.’” I replied putting air quotes around welcome. All in a few seconds his emotions changed from anger to pity then back to anger.
“You can come stay with me. I don’t think mum cares if is for one night”
Now no emotion was on his face. All he did was take a big breath in and sigh a big breath out.
“We’ll see.” He said without moving a muscle in his body, well besides his mouth muscles.
We walked for a few minutes in silence before a small hand squeezed into mine. I look down to see the little girl. I should really get to know her name but before I could ask her anything she said;
“My name is Bethany and he is Casper. What is your name?”
“Alexandra”
